Lightsicles!
Took this pic early this morning before work. We got over 1 foot of snow over the past couple of days. Snow accumulated on the fixture, then (I assume) the heat from the fixture melted the snow and it promptly refroze, as temperatures were near 0ºF. Pretty cool!

nice! Looks like this is what's headed my way then? if my M-250A could talk it would probably thank me for bringing it indoors, retiring it from outside. The Cooper OVC wouldn't be too happy though, as it's the one out there now. Laughing

It's supposed to get extremely cold the next couple of days. The low on Sunday night is supposed to be -19ºF. I'm pretty sure PSMH has a min. starting temp of -20ºF. Confused

yeah but it will still start up. as the lamp ages it could get harder to start but I've never actually seen it too cold for an HID to strike...

I've heard of MV lamps having issues in really cold temps, member Icefoglights on LG had a Philips clear 175w like the ones I have that didn't want to start in the winter in Fairbanks, AK. It even developed blackening at the starting probe end of the arc tube from prolonged dim-glowing like that.

yes ive seen mv lights that wouldnt start in very cold weather.

Yeah, I heard that's why some cold places switched to HPS very early on since HPS starts better in the cold.

Hmm. I guess I've never seen it get cold enough. Since PSMH has an external igniter though it should still start up in the cold like HPS.

After 4 years 3 months, the lamp in this fixture stopped working yesterday. It was rated for 15,000 hours so about right on. Not bad for a no-name bulb, I must say! It's been working faithfully every night since it was installed over 4 years ago.
