250w HPS Ballast 
Here's a 250w HPS ballast that was the original ballast in my [url=http://www.galleryoflights.org/mb/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-1876]Sylvania Powerlite R47.[/url] I took it out because the paper covering on the windings was damaged because of a bird's nest and I wanted to see how the R47 looks in MV so I installed a new 250w MV/MH ballast when I cleaned it up.

But it works? I have fixed my 100 watt pulse start MH ballast (a soldering was loose inside the paper cover so I had to open it) and I used some kind of sticker paper and some Elmer's glue which makes a good varnish substitute

Yep it still works fine, good thing the bird only damaged the paper wrap on the ballast, I just took the ripped parts off and put masking tape to cover the wires back up, might not be code but I don't know where to get the varnish.

I recently found a electronics store that sells a small bottle of red transformer varnish, I guess that's close to the stuff they use on ballasts...
