GE Branded Magnetek F96T8 Ballast
Here's a GE F96T8 ballast that was made by Magnetek that I got at Restore. I don't have any F96T8 lamps for it but since it has a OCV of 750V I could use it to fry some dead lamps that I have.

This one is made in 15th week of 1999.

Thanks, I also found a date stamp on the back of the ballast that says "D 99" which means it should be made around the same time that you stated (April 1999).

Great! At least I am in track with dating the ballast with year/week codes Cool

the Price Tag Says 19.99....that seems Like a Low Price! Shocked
joe_347V   [Jul 29, 2010 at 02:16 AM]
Yep, but I got it for even cheaper but I don't know exactly how much since I got it along with some other stuff for $10 Shocked

The F32T8 version of this one...total junk Sad Died on the first EOL bulb it saw.

And it had maybe a week's worth of usage total...Don't think i'll ever buy another GE-Magnetek electronic again.

Meh at least it was cheap, I haven't had a chance to try this ballast out though. Have no room to store the 8 footers.
xmaslightguy   [Apr 18, 2011 at 10:53 PM]
@joe_347V same with the F32 version i had..'at least it was cheap' LOL

For testing (or even normal use if you wanted) you can put 2 4-footers in series and it will work fine..the ballast will "see" this as 8-feet of bulb Smile

LOL since its a GE-Magnetek just don't let the bulbs go EOL Laughing

Wonder if this would work with 75w or 60w T12s?
A_lights   [Jan 28, 2013 at 01:21 AM]
Yeah it would work but lamps would be dim and probably sputter
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jan 28, 2013 at 01:22 AM]
By being run at 59w? I would think in that case 60w ones would work okay...but 75 watters would be dim/underdriven...
A_lights   [Jan 28, 2013 at 02:03 AM]
Yeah lAmp current is almost half at 230mA verus 460mA for T12 lamps, i tried it on my electronic T8 slimline ballast it was dimmer then on a normal magnetic ballast
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jan 28, 2013 at 02:11 AM]
I see...so they would just sputter and die early from being underdriven/underpowered?
xmaslightguy   [Jan 28, 2013 at 02:48 AM]
I've had no problems running F40T12's on a F32T8 ballast (no sputter'ing/early death - its really no worse than a LPF ballast) .. should be the same with this. If you want you can also wire one of these up in 2x Overdrive mode & it'll give something closer to 'normal' brightness on a T12
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jan 28, 2013 at 02:28 PM]
So will a F40T12 not hurt a F32T8 ballast in long-term use? (other than instant starting)? Because in my application that would be handy...what about an F34T12?
streetlight98   [Jan 28, 2013 at 07:06 PM]
I don't see any issue since with higher wattage, the lamp draws less current so it might actually be a little better for the ballast, though with shorter lamp life and behavior similar to a LPF/LBF ballast like xmaslightguy mentioned. I've never done it personally though.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jan 29, 2013 at 01:06 AM]
When I run out of F32T8 lamps I'll have to try it...
xmaslightguy   [Jan 29, 2013 at 01:27 AM]
@GEsoftwhite100watts
Nope won't hurt the ballast...it'll actually run cooler than it would with F32T8's
I've also ran F34T12's on those F32T8 IS ballasts, seems to work fine, but they're pretty pathetically dim if its even somewhat cool LOL
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jan 29, 2013 at 01:28 AM]
Of course Laughing
