Pinch seals are twisted from each other. And oh yeah the bulging arc tube.
Silverliner14B   [Jun 26, 2010 at 02:29 AM]
Yep weird eh? I think it allows flexibility depending on the position where the lamp locks in the socket. The base is a position oriented type with the pin. The bulge where you see it shows exactly the position the lamp was operated.

That's a weird, but cool feature! I guess you can't wait to test that lamp up! Smile

I have actually seen two 1650 Watts Metal Halide bulb burning horizontal position at Underwriters Laboratories at Northbrook, IL where I used to work there about than 18-19 years ago. They were testing the fixture at one department.

UNUSUAL! Cool! I only have a 1500 watt one...I think I should get a video of mine lighting up.....will have to do it in the basement though....

I also got a 2000w MH lamp from Rick, it's a Sylvania double ended type. Sure, make a video of your 1.5kw lamp!

This Lamp has been designed this way to stio swirling of the arc when lit, which can cause stroboscope on Television Camera's when televising a Sporting Event,

Cool lamp it's the only size I am missing to complete my collection of US metal Halide Lamps,

Cool, I always thought of 1650 watt MH to be kind of odd.

Form109   [Dec 27, 2010 at 05:19 AM]
you need to tap a substation to light that sucker. Laughing
streetlight98   [Apr 25, 2011 at 09:08 PM]
What's the difference between position oriented and regular MH lamps and sockets?
GullWhiz   [Apr 25, 2011 at 10:42 PM]
Yep I've seen his 10,000 watt MV that Geoff has!!!
Silverliner14B   [Apr 25, 2011 at 11:42 PM]
@streetlight98 the position oriente mogul base has a protruding pin in the base shell, so it will only go in a special socket and it locks into position so the curved arc tube points upward, following the upward bowing of the arc stream.
streetlight98   [Apr 25, 2011 at 11:45 PM]
Will regular lamps work in a position oriented socket?
Silverliner14B   [Apr 26, 2011 at 12:17 AM]
Yep they will fit.
