Lamps!
Here are five lamps I got from the streetlighting contractor, they where relamping one of the OVZs on my grandmother's street that I had reported just as I was getting back from school! So I went over to watch them relamp the light and then they gave me these lamps, they only had one fixture that was taken down and it was a 400 watt 125 so I passed on it since I already have two of them, it was quite interesting watching them and I talked with them for a bit, something I didn't know was they check the fuse in the hand hole whenever they repair the fixture, I'm not sure what the purpose of that is but they do. I also saw that on their truck they carry 3 of each wattage of fixture as a replacement, they had OVZs 115 and OVXs. They also agreed that the ALTOs are crap but they are obviously forced to use whatever the company buys, the 70 watt ED 23 1/2 came out of the OVZ being relamped, this is pretty pathetic as it is the second light to fail in just over a year.

Junk! Well even modern mercs are awful!

My area used Philips until about a year ago or so, now they use GE...the probe start MH of GE are CRAP! The MV is OK but still crap....but the GE HPS are actually good!

What is the date code of that Sylvania HPS? It looks like it had a long life!

Hugarian GE mercs were probably the best of today's MVs, with EYE, but now they're made in China as well... Rolling Eyes

Yep absolute crap, the Sylvanias are good though, yet another place where cost outweighs quality. Jace where would I find the date code? I can't see anything that looks vaguely like a date code anywhere on the lamp...

Most likely its very lightly engraved on the base in most cases.....usually 2 letters and 2 numbers or 1 letter and 3 numbers.....the letters usually are in lower case...

Yeah the date codes on the Sylvania HPS lamps are usually on the base although one of mine has the code printed on the base instead of engraved.

If yours is old enough to be a GTE lamp the date codes on those are usually on or near the stem press.

That last lamp is very blackened, how do they end up this way? Nice lamps though. I might need to post my whole collection of lamps now.. which is a LOT!

The arctube will crack, causing the sodium to leak out. I may be changing my collection around so I could take a picture of all of my lamps.
