New addition! 200w HPS 115 From 2008. In 14 days this light will hit 10 years old! Wow! Can't believe how fast things are going now. But.. I found this at the restore, the wheat ridge one (Xmaslightguy, there is another one there if you want to buy it, it's 20 bucks) which for some reason I have having incredible luck finding cobraheads at the restore after moving back here to Colorado. I bought this one cause it is my first 200 watt HPS fixture. One of the more oddity wattages (though not nearly as much so as 310 watts.. I would love a 310 watt fixture) but it's a nice addition, it's a bit dirty on the inside but I will try to fire up soon! This is internals, ballast is a decent size and stuff. I have never seen a high wattage HPS ballast in anything other than CWA. This summer I'm hopefully going to order a 200w HPS series 11 NEMA. It will be interesting to see what the ballast looks like.

I'd imagine it's the cheapest so that's why it's used. I prefer ballasts without capacitors in general, but once you get to a certain point, the current draw is just way too high to use a NPF ballast.

Hmm, a 200w HPS HX ballast seems kinda rare. I think most replacement ballasts are CWA/CWI. Apparently 400w MV HX-NPF ballasts existed at one point, the current draw on those must have been fairly high.

Yea, and from what I have heard probe start metal halide ballasts in HX form exist too. AEL used to offer the Series 11 in 175w metal halide, but it used an ordinary CWA ballast (no idea how that would have worked out in the long run).

Yeah I think HX ballasts for higher wattages only exist as OEM equipment. Any aftermarket ballast I've seen is a single coil choke or a CWA. Yep 400W MV HX-NPF ballasts did exist! Westinghouse used them in their OV-400s. The current draw, like you said Joe, must've been ridiculous. Shocked
