My wallpack open.
Here it is open, as you see all the stuff inside. The weird thing is the ballast is mounted on the HOUSING while the capacitor and ignitor (before I replaced it) were on the plate thing that screws in the top.

Metal Halide lamp fits perfectly in there and the MH ballast you see here works nice too, (loud ballast though)

This thing is pretty heavy, it must be hard to take that door off. xD

What brand is the ballast?

And I don't really get why they mounted the ballast on the door instead of the backplate, looks pretty hard to service imo.

I would say it is for easy servicing, you simply change out the door! The same idea as the Holophane flood.

It's like a power-door. On a wallpack.

With the ballast on the door it also makes it easier to mount on the wall, cause it's less heavy, then you lift the door then put it up, simple as that.

That's a good point, I guess the back doesn't weight very much.

It's actually very lightweight. The door though is heavy, about 20 or 30 pounds? The original balast was bigger and heavier, it was an Advance ballast. I forget the brand of this one, I think it's Advance as well. The ballast I put in this is from a Kim-Lighting shoebox I found laying on the ground and that HAS been laying on the ground for a long time.
