You MUST check out this photocell!
Yep it's just a 1992 GE M-250R2, but look closer. Look at the PC. Yep, that's a 1960s tall white Ripely control!!! O_O I guess the photocell goddess spared this PC? This just goes to show that old school stuff will outlast ten of anything made today. That PC does look a little out of place on a M-250R2 though lol. I'd expect to see it on a 60s merc lol. The PC must have been transferred to this light when this light replaced the merc, which is very odd to say the least. It's a very pleasant oddity though. :-D

The mercs were all 240V, but the PC receptacles were wired for 120V so this PC would still work fine on 120V.

I wonder if the PC that was originally installed with the M-250A2 died and they reused the old Ripley from a removed cobrahead.

Maybe... I do find it hard to believe that this fixture would have had the same lamp for 20 years. If NGrid had relamped it they would have replaced the PC too. Narragansett Electric had the same policy (NGrid basically grandfathered in the practices of the utilities they took over) but maybe the policy didn't apply to fixtures being installed? lol.

it's very interesting nonetheless lol. I wonder if joe m would have a concrete explanation like maybe there was a PC shortage with NGrid in the mid 2000s or something...

EDIT/UPDATE: This fixture and PC are still in service. BTW, Joe Maurath Jr had told me one time that during the HPS changeout, Mass Electric sometimes ran short on PCs so they'd reuse the PC from the merc being removed if it still worked in some cases. He said that this was probably one of those instances. It's amazing that this still has it original lamp too! Since if it was relamped, it would have certainly gotten a new PC. This fixture has had its original lamp for around 27 years now! More impressively though, the PC has served faithfully for close to half a century!

This light was still up as of November 9, 2016, but it could be LED by now.
