Old Meets New...
I wonder how much longer the cobraheads have... The OV-50 is an original light. not sure of the 17-000 but it's pretty old too. There ARE a few cobraheads, an OVX, new M-400, an OV-50, and an M-1000 or two plus a couple RLGs, that are NOT going to be removed, as there are no bases for LEd over there, though i saw a pile of concrete bases ready to be isntalled next to a CAT construction vehicle. The LED poles are shorter than the cobraheads by a few feet and there are many more of them.

I was told in the 60s sometimes it was common practice to install different brand stuff in same time in same place....so they both may be same age just decided to buy them from two different companies....but those could also be refurbished fixtures since you said they ALL VARY big time...

Maybe they're original then. There are 1970s M-1000s. the original door type but with X1 NEMA tags and no fins. there also was/is a step door version. I doubt there are any refurbushed lights, though they were all retrofitted to 320W PSMH a few years back. Prior to that there were all sorts of lamp types and wattages. It seems for a while they were replacing the lights as there is a huge variety of lights. I've never seen so amny different lights in a parking lot. Typically parking lots reballast instead of replace. The newest lights in the parking lot were a pair of AEL 125s that were factory 320W PSMH. They replaced a pair of M-400A2s becuase the pole weld failed at the base. This was a month after the A2s were retrofitted from HPS to PSMH. The AEL 125s are long gone though. They were up for about a year before beign removed. they were the first lights to go. They got taken down before they even started the relighting project. They needed to remove the pole since it was in the way of the Borders Books building, which was demolished. It's being rebuilt as a fitness center which is temporarily in the building right in the background. La Fitness i guess...

I'm guessing they're slowly replacing the lights and probably in conjunction with the new construction too.

They removed some of the cobraheads already, probably because they were in the way of the new lights. They sure are installing a lot more poles and lights than they are replacing so i hope the parking lot is nice and bright. I hope they repave the parkinglot when they're done too since they did a half-@$$ job filling in the channels they dug for the new lights conduit. It's like they just poured in some asphalt and didn't even bother to level it. So i'm assuming it's intended as a temporary fix until they're done and then they'll probably repave the parking lot. They're also installing a bunch of islands too so it's a PITA to manuever around the parking lot now. Before, you could just floor it across the parking lot since it was all flat, no islands. The only store over there is OfficeMax and iParty so there's never really anyone parked there so you would basically own the parking lot while driving by lol. apparently this LA|FITNESS place is drawing a few people though...

Ahh, over here the temp asphalt fills for the utility conduits sometimes stay for years Rolling Eyes but I guess for a parking lot they probably won't be as cheap as the city.

Most newer it's here have islands too and they sometimes plant long grass, flowers or trees in them. LA Fitness is in Canada too but their stores are usually much bigger than the one in your pic. Razz

oh they say Rhode Island has the worst roads in america! They're cheap has hell and always do a half-@$$ job when they patch potholes and the salty air is hard on the pavement too along with the salt and sand used in the winter. When they repave a road (which does happen though it's about as common a 400w MV lights here lol) they usually do a pretty decent job but when they "fix" potholes its usually worse after they "fix" it. And if it's half way decent the plow rips it up the following winter. The plows here make the stop signs tip too becuase they pack the snow on the street corners and the weight of the snow moves the poles so they tip. Shocked Some of the stop signs are on 3"x3" square wood poles and the plows tend to knock those down completly. You'll see the signs laying face down for a week or so until someone steals it for scrap. The stop signs on wood poles are all 30" ones and all the others are 24". when a 30" stop sign gets hit it gets replaced with a 24" one.

btw, this is a temporary store. they're going in where borders was and they're building a brand new 2-story building. think of a borders book store but two floors. HUGE. Shocked

Well, Toronto is known for having bad roads but the MTO seems to be pretty good with repaving, they use some special asphalt that fades to a reddish colour instead of grey like the city.

The stop and street signs here are held up with 4x4 wood posts but the plows here rarely knock them down. 24" stop signs (I think Toronto has some 18" ones O_o) are the most common but I've seen them go up to 48" before.

We don't have Borders here but I guess the LA Fitness here is the same size and it's two storey and huge too. Shocked

UPDATE: well, they removed the last OV-50, the OVX, and the newish M-400. All that's left is two more M-400A2s, two newish M-400As, an M-1000, and two or three RLGs. The poles are still at the scene (and maybe the lights are too) but they thought ahead and stuck them behind a fence versus leaving them out in the open.
