The M-400s at my High School
They don't work. Or more precisely, they're not switched anymore. These two have yellowed lenses while the one behind the pic has no lens and sports a few bullet holes with gasket that's hanging in the front, caught by the refractor tabs. The lamp in it is a-okay though with slight blackening in the arc tube. These are 250W HPS BTW and the people are sledders.

Hey are those fold down poles for maintenance ?
streetlight98   [Feb 24, 2013 at 07:24 PM]
I'm not sure. Do they look like they could be? They are anchor base, but the pole bases are slightly buried, even the one without the lens which has a sidewalk around it. The poles are pretty rusted out and the arm on the last pole in the pic is bending downward. I'm not sure how much longer these poles have before they fail. the school is from the 50s so it makes me wonder what was here before... Possibly Form 400 powerpacks since i don't see any provisions for a remote ballast and i don't think incandescent would have been replaced by 250W HPS.

Yes they could be look at the piece of metal in the middle of the pole I believ that is the hinge point, I'v seen this before and they wer fold down poles.
streetlight98   [Feb 24, 2013 at 08:30 PM]
Oh Cool that means i won't need a bucket truck to resuce these lol. I bet the hinge probably needs a few cans of WD-40 to budge though looking at how rusted these poles are. I've always wondered what that piece of metal was for. I figured maybe there was something else on the pole. i'll have to take a closer look when i go to gym tomorrow. i enjoyed this week of vacation and i'll enjoy my next vacation the week of April 15th. until then, i'll be getting up at 6AM M-F lol.

which way do these swing down? It appears they're a provision for a second arm too.

EDIT: do you mean like these poles? Does that mean you'd need a winch or is there one in the pole?
Mercuryvapor123   [Feb 24, 2013 at 09:03 PM]
Yes just like those poles the ones I saw had the hand crank at the base. Yes it seems they do have mounting for a second arm.

These have very very small bases. The pole stays the same diameter from the middle to the base. The anchor bolt caps are decorative I noticed. i kinda hope they're hinged. That way if they remove the poles eventually i can get a light easier! I'm betting they'll wait until one of them falls then they'll tap the others with a F250 and nock em down. Hopefully the one with bullet holes falled first lol.

I'd love to stumble accross the switch for these and flip it on... I'd also love to go and ask if i can lug all three home. I'd beg my parents to let me keep one and i'd ship off the other two to the people of GoL. Cool Shipping would be a PITA though. Shocked

Well, that explains why you were on GoL all the time this week. Razz For moment I thought if you had a reading week to this week. I was off this week because of reading week but I was mostly out in the afternoons.

Cool that you're trying to save them, I don't have space or the money to pay for shipping (which will be Shocked ) but I bet someone else here will probably be interested in one.
streetlight98   [Feb 24, 2013 at 11:44 PM]
Yeah. I'll only try to get one if they are removing them and there's no one else around. i'd feel awkward taking them home on the bus or standing at the corner with the three lights waiting for my dad to come with the F150 lol. These are the only HID lights left at the school besides in the library. I guess the Cranston School Department got a grant for LED lights as all the floods, wallpacks, and the few shoe boxes in the front as well as the HID canopy lights got replaced with LEDs. It happened at all the schools across the city. These were spared because they're out of service i guess.

School vacation for me is always the week of President's Day and the week of tax day (April 15th) so they don't have to give us the day off for those days. Razz and of course there's Chirstmas Break- er.. i mean Holiday Break which covers Christmas and New Year's. Every so often we get two full weeks of vacation for x-mas. Then the school year is REALLY long. Sad I'd rather go to school without any winter vacations so we can have a longer summer break since those schools are sweat shops big time! I'm guessing up in Canada you'd prefer winter breaks because of skiing?

I really want to save some of the lights at Rocky Point Park. If i could get any, i'd save the one and only itt 25 for George since he's been on a goose hunt for one with no turn ups. Then I'd try and save an OV-400 since it's a small sized light and i would ahve room for it and I'd try to get any and all PCs from the place and a few refractors.

Ahh, I usually get a week off in mid February, the Easter weekend off, but I end school in May after my final exams are over. I start school in the first week of September after Labour day, and have a two-week break during Christmas. If my fall finals end early I might get a extra week off. Razz

Back in high school it was mostly the same except the exam break was in the end of January and with the winter break pushed back to mid March. I ended school in June back then.

I want to see the lights in Rocky Point Park saved too, especially the older ones like the OV-400s. I guess you could always save the lamps, PCs, glass, and ballasts from the lights you can't keep too.
streetlight98   [Feb 25, 2013 at 06:56 PM]
Yeah. I'd have to be in the right palce at the right time. Okay, i looked closer at these poles and they do indeed appear to be hinged. There's a little tiny knob on the pole near the base that could be where the winch is? It's kinda small though...
