R37's are down. I have a chance now!
These R37's on under braced arms have finally come down and have been left at a church beside the road. This roads now LED though. I feel that its gonna be a hassle finding the crews again. Any idea on how to remove the fixture from the arm? I don't want these to get scrapped as they can become my first light of my new collection. They are on a church property which I know the minister who can take them for me if the crew doesn't take these

I hope so too! There is also a AE 115 and a R47. But I think im going to go for the R37's considering they aren't even beside the road.

Our residential streets crescents and courts are 70w and some 150w. This is also one of the first subdivisions built. They are original braced arms even the powerlites. They replaced these with LED 103w NVN's. Thanks for the tips guys! Much appreciated! I got a bunch of adjustable wrenches I can try Razz

I hope you can get them! Yes, as Alain mentioned they are 14mm or equivalent to 9/16'' bolts so if you have a socket wrench with those sizes bring them along too,the R47 will have the same two slip fitter bolts on top. Same here Alain, the smallest wattage here is 100W,this is a first for me to see R37's with the 70W NEMA tag.

Either you or the scrapper takes em!
I wonder what light was on these arms when they were were first installed.
Do you know what contractor was working on these?

Yeah this is the only street I have seen 70w powerlite R47's and R37's. Weridly the AE 115 was a 250w it was on a massive concrete pole on the end of the street. Yeah il bring a bunch of wrenches, I hope this goes as I plan. Its not too heavy to carry either even with the massive arm I was able to lift the whole thing pretty easily. Laughing

I did not get to see who was doing the work unfortunately. In the morning there were no signs of any crews coming then by about 12pm they were on the ground and the poles were crunched broken or lying beside the fixture.

GET THESE! Man I'd love an R37 but I don't think I'll ever get one. I'm coming up to Ontario this summer but I wouldn't have room for a cobrahead lol. yeah loosen the two bolts and bring wire cutters to cut the wires coming out of the arm after you take the fixtures off the arms. I took my two M-400A2s right off the poles on the ground in a parking lot lol. Thankfully it was just getting dark and it was sorta wet out so there wasn't many people. I brought a screw driver, a socket wrench, and a pair of bolt cutters (I was going to cut the bolts off the mark arms and take the arms too but i couldn't get the bolts at the right angle so rather than get caught and end up with nothing or worse, I just opened up the powr/doors, loosened the 4-bolt fitters, closed the powr door, pulled the fixture off the arm and used the bolt cutters to cut the wires. I little extreme but i did it to save time from running back to the truck to grab wire cutters. plus the bolt cutters cut the thick 10 AWG wires like scissors would cut a drinking straw lol)

I'm upset that i missed out on two M-1000s and a RLG but I'm happy with the two M-400A2s. Better than nothing!

If I don't tomorrow im going there at dusk/night and doing it. The thing here is that these are not attached to the pole, its just attached to the arm still. Im probably gonna go all out when getting it. I have someone who can assist me if I need
joe_347V   [Apr 09, 2014 at 03:35 AM]
Yeah, my two Powerlites were wired up with 12 AWG UF wire so you'll also need a pair of cutters to cut the wire. Make sure to also get a ride home (or drive) as they're a bit for someone to carry home lol.

70w R37s are rare in my area too, they are either too old for NEMA tags or have 100w tags on them.

To open up the lights you just pull on the latch away from the fixture to unlatch the door.
streetlight98   [Apr 09, 2014 at 11:08 AM]
ahh mine had that plastic coated southwire stuff that they sell at lowes (not UF rated) since the poles were metal with the wiring inside. one wire was red and one was white IIRC. No black wire.

70W HPS is rare in NECo territory but BVU has lots of 70W FCO M-250R2s.

Interesting how most places use 100W HPS has the minimum. Here 50W HPS is the minimum and it's used all over the place. BVU didn't use 50W, they used 70W instead. Both used 100 and 250W HPS but neither used 150W or 200W HPS.

These were taken away by the crews late evening yesterday or bright and early this morning. Not even the twistpaks are there anymore I never even saw the crews at all Mad Sad I had tge tools and everything.

Our lowest wattage streetlights are 70w . Our only 200w's were replaced in 2011 for 250w. Over 60 OV-15's removed and all replaced by OVX's

My power company West Penn Power only uses 100, 200, and 400 watt high pressure sodium street lights.
streetlight98   [Apr 09, 2014 at 07:27 PM]
Aw man, you should have moved them into the church when you had the chance i guess. Sad Well there's nothing you can do about it now. Neutral

For new cobraheads NGrid installed 50, 100, 250, and 400W. For coach post tops NGrid installed 50 and 100W. For flood lights they install 250W and 400W. Nothing over 400W here though in New York NGrid installs 1000W HPS lights. they're AEL 327s, the only light NGrid uses that's not GE or Cooper.

I saw West Penn Power removing several street lights neat the Hulton Bridge last year, unfortunately I couldn't get them.
streetlight98   [Apr 09, 2014 at 09:31 PM]
Oh is that when they dropped the Westinghouse OV-25 to the ground from the bucket? Crying or Very sad
m@   [Apr 09, 2014 at 10:41 PM]
You know, the lights in Brampton might have been taken by a guy in a minivan who has been quick to take metal objects i put out for garbage. Confused
Model25FanForever   [Apr 09, 2014 at 11:10 PM]
The post tops were on the ground at lunch still attached to the poles though but after lunch all of them were gone so the crews passed by when I wasnt there everytime Sad
lite_lover   [Apr 10, 2014 at 12:58 AM]
Awe,I was afraid of that they might not be there by the morning. Sad Probably some scrapper picked everything up last night. Hopefully there is more lights in the area that are still going to be changed.
streetlight98   [Apr 10, 2014 at 01:01 AM]
yeah probably a scrapper. The two M-1000s and the RLG at the shopping plaza near me were on arms but the arms were detatched from the poles so they were easy to take. The M-400A2s were still attached to the poles so they probably didn't want to risk taking them but the very next day all the poles were gone except one small section of one pole (i guess it didn't fit in the truck or soemthing) so that same person must have come back in the dead of the night and chopped up the poles. Shocked I had very good timing saving those M-400A2s! I'm sure you'll have your day when you score big too.

Reminds me of the time a few years ago, Morton Grove was planning to replace their 50+ year-old mercs. I drove by frequently hoping to catch them taking them down, as I had my eye on an Ovalite. I kept a socket wrench in my glove compartment in case they already removed the lightpoles; I had an idea where they might leave them before hauling them away. Long story short, I was able to be there as they were taking down the pole that had the Ovalite on it! The linemen were kind enough to even throw in a Form 400 for good measure Very Happy
joe_347V   [Apr 13, 2014 at 04:13 AM]
Aww man, yeah if they disappeared by night it was most likely a scrapper (that or some dude looking for a growlight lol), in my area there's a scrapper that drives around in a van looking for stuff to scrap lol.
Model25FanForever   [Apr 13, 2014 at 09:27 PM]
Atleast have left the light there. lol Sad
