Interesting, these are McCain signals. They're somewhat common in Oakville and Milton but I've never seen one used in Toronto before. I wonder why they used McCain 12-8-8s as the all 12" signals and pedestrian signals are all Fortran.

Oh thanks. I have seen different brands used for pedestian signals often. If not a Fortran signal, some models here seem to be used more for street signals and some more for pedestrian.

Yeah Ive begun to see a lot more McCain signals in use in areas that don't have McCain signals.

I think the whole Mii way in Toronto will probably have the McCain signals.

I do like the McCain signals. They look like new CGE's. Would like to see them in Brampton Laughing

Yeah, I noticed that they somewhat resemble new CGE signals. The visors not so much though. Especially since Toronto still uses the classic hanger mount. I think York Region is still using Fortrans and Econolites though.

Wonder if in the coming years we will see McCain signals start to pop up for replacements and new installs instead of Fortrans.

I wonder too. I also wonder if the McCains that are popping up recently aluminium or poly. If they're aluminium, they're possibly the first aluminium signals installed in the GTA since the 90s.

Interestingly Fortran is the official distributor of McCain signals in Canada.

Are those M-400s painted or bare? Bare GEs would surely be something since all the GEs I've seen pictures of in Canada have been painted despite how most lights are bare up there.
Model25FanForever   [Jan 17, 2017 at 06:23 PM]
Yeah they are painted. Almost every GE cobra here is painted. I think they might be aluminum. They look more like aluminum signals because of the color.
streetlight98   [Jan 17, 2017 at 11:52 PM]
All the GEs there should be painted. For some reason GE won't offer bare fixtures (but I didn't know if that had changed recently). Any that you see that look bare just have lost all their paint. It was very common for the 80s GEs to loose all their paint. A bad decade for GE's powdercoating lol.
joe_347V   [Jan 24, 2017 at 04:29 AM]
Yeah, I've never seen a factory bare GE even though 90% of the other cobras here were bare. I've also don't think I've seen a bare LED fixture here either lol.
streetlight98   [Jan 24, 2017 at 08:25 PM]
Yeah other than the early ones, which had stainless steel heatsinks (or something on the lines of that; not cast aluminum anyway) I've never seen pictures of unpainted LEDs either. And even then, the cast portions of the fixtures were still painted.

What cracks me up are LED waffles painted black to be "decorative". A paint color is not going to make an ugly piece of mutilated scrap metal look decorative lol. And it only worked slightly on cobraheads. Even cobraheads don't look that decorative painted a different color. That's what gumballs, teardrops, etc. are for.

Sorry for bringing this back up, but I recently discovered that the contractor that installed these were Beacon Utilities Contractors Ltd, not Guild Electric. They've used McCain signals on other intersections within Toronto, as well as TCT signals. They're not usually used as spot replacements, only in new intersections or reconstruction.

Interesting find, I never watched these get installed Downtown, nor along the Eglinton. The more recent signals there by the Airport have all been Fortran signal installs.
