Starting to bug me!!!
The Paper Wasps keep coming back! This time they stayed all winter too!
I want to take down those Christmas lights but I'm kinda afraid of those little buzzing dudes!!!
I don't really want to use poison, but I may have to.
Any ideas??

Shocked I had to deal with these when I was fixing up the deck, I had to use wasp spray to "persuade" them to leave. Confused

I may have to try that,
I was thinking about using the garden hose from a distance but it might just make them angry!!!!

They'll just think it's raining. I'd put in a jacket and long pants and spray them with wasp spray though like Joe said.

Or wait until winter but I guess it doesn't really work in CA, over here they'll become a lot less active when it drops below 10C/50F.

Spray hose them with water during the night when they are quiet....oh be sure to gear up just in case (by dressing yourself up very thick thicker than their stingers!) Be sure to remove the nests!!!

I wonder if there are wasp repellant. I am not really a bug killer myself....

Yuck! Shocked I hate wasps worse than any of the other bugs we get here.

Get one of those cans of was spray that shoots the long stream & spray away (at night) ... then the next day if all are dead, knock down the nest and burn it! (to finish off any remaining eggs/larva)

I had one nest last year that i couldn't spray due to its location (in a light above a fishpond) The solution there was to take a bugzapper, put a small jar of wasp/yellowjacket attractant in it, and hang it near where the nest was Smile and leave it running during the day .. worked like a charm Cool

I've sprayed wasp nests with a hose before, just be ready to run! It would probably be best to do it at night for nests this big! Also use the "jet" setting on the nozzle so you can be as far back as possible.

Unfortunately, the water faucet is directly under this wasp nest, so I'm having second thoughts about doing that!

They really picked a good spot to build a nest eh? Laughing

Well I guess you could try getting a really long hose and spray them for far away then.

Paper wasps are not really agressive. You can even stay 3 feet away without major risk. They only get agressive if you attack the nest, and they do, very much!

There's another kind of wasps that do their nest underground, those are extremely agressive! I had those last year and I got close from being stung just by getting too close to the nest!

So you can eliminate the wasps you have easily if you prepare a good plan before. I'd advise you to KEEP the paper nest though! Wasps will instinctively build a new nest a few hundred feet away from any unknown wasp nest!

I'll use a microwave oven transformer to zap the wasps Razz

My dad usually goes out a couple hours after sunset (maybe like 9-10PM) and sprays the nest with bee killer. If there're just a few bees flying around near where I am, I'll spray 'em with the hose though.
