Still dayburning eh? When i saw it earlier this year it was dayburning too. Yeah this is in the Olneyville Section of Providence. Not a happy or safe place to be after dark! Lots of shootings happen over there! IIRC, the flood is a westie too, right? Was this as green as it registered in the pic? When i saw it, it was pure white with some dead bugs on the inside of the refractor.

Duquesne Light fixed a dayburner in Shaler Township, PA and relamped the street light after it dayburned for at least 12 years back in late 2008.

There's a 100W MV M-250R2 near my cousins that's been dayburning for as long as I've been around (probably longer so at least 14 years) and still puts decent light out. Shocked

There's also a 70s M-250R near me that's been dayburning for as long as I've lived in my neighboorhood (so since before 2003). It's on all day long but at night for some reason when i pass it in the car, it's always glowing a dim pink color like it's just striking on. And this is well after dusk, around 10PM. Plus it's a steady pink glow, not flickery like a MV lamp typically is when warming up. Why is it that it's on all day but at night it acts up like that? I've never actually driven under it, rather i've seen it from the end of the street. The light isthe second pole on the street (about 250-300 feet i'd guess).

Yep thats a Westy floodlight. The OV-25's lamp is actually a /DX color, still bright.

Same when i saw it. There's a small chance though that this will get a new PC if the lamp output is good. Also since that area isn't exactly what i'd call safe to be in alone at night, the lineman might want to just quickly change the photocell and jump back in the truck. I know i'd be scared to be up in a bucket truck in the Olneyville section of Providence at night. Sad Someone will probably jump in the truck and take off or i'd get shot up in the bucket. Shocked

Dave, this one fell victim to a 42W Cree LED this past summer. Sad Flood light is still there but it doesn't work. See here.

Wait, I thought street light maintenance was done during the day. I wondered why they would replace the photocell but not the lamp, but if it is really that bad, I don't blame them. That is probably what I would do too. Sad

The electric company does maintenance overnight here. However, the cities who have purchased ownership of the utility's street lights (which was the case here) have had their LED conversions done during the daytime. But regular maintenance from the electric company here is always done at night. They only do stuff like replace metal pole knockdowns during the day.

They don't relamp mercs here so if they didn't put a new PC in, they'd have to change the fixture. So the lineman would rather just replace the PC even if the lamp is dim. But if the fixture was reported as "dim" and not "dayburner" then they'd have to replace it with a 250W HPS. But this particular light was actually left alone until it was LED'ed.

I believe back when we still had HPS, they also did the maintenance overnight. The changeouts to LED were done by a outside company during the day though.

Yep same. When they cities buy the lights over from NGrid, PRISM becomes responsible for coordinating the changeout with the city. The city pays for everything but everything is dealt with through PRISM (Partnership for Rhode Island Street light Maintenance), who in turn contracts work out to the lowest bidder. As far as brands go, so far I've only seen 3000K AEL Autobahns and 4000K Cree LEDs used in municipalities. Not sure if that's all PRISM offers or if municipalities are just copying each other. The trend is that the urban areas use the Crees while more suburban cities/towns are using the AELs, which are much dimmer since they're 3000K and using lower wattages.

For the 3000K AELs, PRISM offer the following:
50W HPS to 20W LED
100W HPS to 40W LED
250W HPS to 70W LED
400W HPS to 133W LED

For Crees they offer:
50W HPS to 42W LED
100W HPS to 42W LED
250W HPS to 139W LED
400W HPS to 139W LED

Not sure why that is, but that's what I've seen in every single LED town. Only two wattage Cree LEDs used (making 50W HPS lit roads very nicely lit after the conversion) and the AELs are really pushing the envelope with how low the wattages are. I'd like to see the AELs but in "Cree brightness" lol.

RIDOT used 133W LeoTek toilets to replace 250W HPS and 280W LeoTek toilets to replace 400W HPS and the freeways are very well it. RIDOT did a good job selecting appropriate-brightness fixtures. I just hate that RIDOT decided to use those stupid IoT wireless nodes instead of the relay/timer cabinets. Rolling Eyes They'd had numerous issues with the nodes. Dayburners, 24/7 off lights, lights that flash on and off on their own, some lights are on one night and not the next, some will come on for 10 minutes and shut off and then 10 minutes later they're back on. It's absolutely ridiculous.

On another note, the Cree municipalities have all used those same IoT nodes (made by CIMCON). Not sure if they've had the same issues or not. All the AEL municipalities in RI that I've seen have been using the DTL DSS LED photocells with no fancy bells of whistles (other than I think being fail-off units since I haven't seen any dayburners at all but I've seen some out at night. I have a little more faith in the fixtures than I do the PCs so I'd image the ones that are out are because of bad PCs)

42w LED for 50w HPS sounds like it would actually be pretty good.
