Bootleg GE 71w bulbs made in 2012?!
71w is one of the wattages made for California. But it was supposed to be banned as of this January, yet this pack has lumen rated etches with a '2' on the etch! Old packaging yes but I saw some 71w bulbs in the new green and white packaging at CVS but they are kinda expensive. Confused here lol!

How do they reduce the lamp wattage without lowering lumens? Do they make the filament thinner or less resistant to current flow?

I guess they overdrive the filament a bit which reduces lamp life though. Don't regular incandescents last for 1000 hours?

On average they last around 1000 hrs though I've seen 750hrs, 1500hrs and 2000hrs for incandescent lamp life before.

They are just regular incandescent bulbs with slightly lower wattage AND lower light output too. 1080 lumens vs 1170 lumens for 75w.

Oh wow there's really no savings there then. Wasn't GE very close to introducing very energy efficient incandescent lamps but it got dropped in favor of newer CFL, induction, and LED sources?

GE decided to offer energy saving halogens instead of the high efficiency incandescent lamp. They are heavily advertising the "energy efficient" line of soft whites, clears, and reveals that use halogen technolgy. Originally Chinese, they are now Hungarian and Mexican.
