wow. Never seen this before! can't they just start using plastic parts? they've replaced metal with plastic/PVC in just about every other plumbing application lol.
Since starting a new job with an air conditioning company, I've also heard of A/C units being stripped for copper/aluminum parts such as condenser coils and fan motors. One of the service calls we've recently got involved installing security cages around units to deter such thefts.
Well since I am also a toilet enthusiast, I know how people take them. They usually would close the control stop of the Flushometer valve, and then just take the rest off leaving the control stop in place to prevent water from spraying.
I suggest that they install a concealed Flushometer, since they probably can't build a room to access it, they can just get the one with metal screw plates or a key.
But the toilet looks American Standard, a Cadet, as I see those, and the Flushometer is a Sloan Royal.
Kind of funny to see this on my lighting site, cause I am also interested in toilets, so I kind of like seeing this. xD
And Michael, to answer your question PVC can't really be used on potable water, it's against code. You can use PEX or CPVC, but copper pipe is the biggest option. Regular PVC is used mainly for irrigation and non-potable (Potable means drinkable) water systems.
And you can't make a Flushometer valve out of PVC, I own lots of parts for Flushometers, in fact I installed a Flushometer toilet in my basement as opposed to a tank.
Ahh I see. Thanks for the info. I do find plumbing interesting, mainly fresh and gray water lines (I'm to much of a germaphobic to deal with toilets or shower drains lol) I always look at the different brands of toilets. The ones at my school are American Standard and CSA listed, which is ironic since it's AMERICAN standard and CSA is basically the Canadian UL lol. they're white with black seats. Not the original 1950s toilets though...
The urinals are all side-by-side from the floor to about 5ft off the floor and have no flush valves, just a drain at the bottom of each unit. The urinals will all flush together (i guess they're on a timer or something, as the water pipes go right into the wall. There is no room on the other side of the urinals either BTW.) Those urinals actually look like they could be original but I don't know... When they get ready to flush you hear a bunch of air coming out of the pipes and then the water comes out.
One thing that bothers me is that there are no dividers between the urinals, as they're right next to each other. It's kinda...weird...
They are a tough style urinal, usually more efficient, that I would say.
Are the American Standard toilets wall mounted? What does the trapway look like? If it's circular and no visible siphon jet, it would be an older Afwall. I would guess that is what they would be.
Is the logo the older Block style logo with the block on the side or does it have the script font? And if it has the script font does it have the flush volume listed underneath the logo?
@ Ian: Yep, wall mounted. The hole looks like this. I think it says American Standard in a decorative type font. I don't remember a fluch volume rating. I'll take a look tomorrow and get some pics if you'd like. I noticed some of the toilets have older looking flushing devices like above but most have newer looking low-flow valves like this.
My middle school has valves like this except the handle was metal too, not ceramic. My middle school is from 1970 so they're from then. My middle school is like a time capsule lol. Most of the stuff is original and has been fixed with numerous hack jobs whereas my high school has has virually everything replaced at one point. My high school is from the mid 1950s.

Yup, a newer 1987-1998 Afwall. I own a black one from 1993. HERE is a video showing those toilets. I believe that picture you posted showing me the trap design was the thumbnail from a video a friend of mine (Who came here to my house here in Colorado and hung out with me) took. Kind of funny. xD
But yeah. I know models of toilets just like I know streetlights. Those Afwalls are my favorite, and I like owning a black one that has never before been used.
People would have a field day in my HVAC class seeing how much scrap copper/alluminum and evaporater and condenser parts. I wouldn't trust plastic as much as metal for piping.
@Mike Don't you hate it when there are 5 or more urinals all empty and someone decides to come to the one right beside you when they are not in use. Some places seem to have dividers and I appreciate those
@ Ian; yeah makes sense, my school must have gotten new toilets when they added a wing and built a new library and main lobby and got new elevators. Wow that black toilet is really cool! I've only ever seen white toilets besides the wintergreen mint colored toilt in my grandma's downstairs bathroom. It's a tiny little thing. The bowl is almost perfectly round. It's an American Standard too i think. My uncle has the same teal toilet and so does my great-aunt, exept one is bubble gum pink and the other is sky blue. They're all the same brand and model. They fill up with a lot of water and then flush and they have huge tanks. My uncle's toilet needs to have its handle held down for it to sucessfully flush. Otherwise it just "stalls out" (for lack of a proper term) and won't flush right if you just push the handle and let go like you normally would. You hold it until you feel the weight inside sink and then it's safe to let go.
Just for interest's sake, my house (from 2003) has two white Kholer 1.6 gpf toilets. Not sure how they rate in quality but they've done good for 11 years with zero maintenance (besides changing the seats because my dad insists on buying the cheapest of the cheap toilet seats lol)
@ Model25FanForever; yeah unless there's dividers I tend to just use a toilet and aviod the urinal altogether. Plus i can flush the toilet with my foot; can't do that with a urinal, though the ones at my school don't flush anyways. that's kinda creepy that people have taken the urinal next to you lol. At my school, there's like seven of those floor urinals side by side and people will use the one on the far left, the far right, and occasionally the middle, but never more than three. That's just weird lol.
LOL yeah its funny because when im there and someone does that I just think to myself "really c'mon theres 5 or more on the left/right." Never have I seen all of them in use at the same time lol
LOL yeah here if the "3 spots" are full, everyone else will use the stalls or wait in line lol. No one will use the two urinals in between each of the "3 spots".
I don't know what brand my toilet in my house is...but it is mediocre I'd say (Sometimes after flushing the bowl won't totally fill up again)
I hate locker rooms...I dress/undress in the stall if one is vacant...
Eh changing for gym doesn't bother me. It's not quite the same as going to the bathroom lol. The smell of the locker room will make your lungs want to vomit though lol.
Not in my case...for PE I did those home workout videos and changed/showered in a regular "house" type bathroom (Granted the small rural school only had 10 students)
