I also hate it when they mix the signal types as they did to the signal on the left. I hate it when the ped signals automatically change. Especially when we were in Niagra falls. When the light turned green, so did the ped signal and you couldn't go anywhere because it was the end of the road. Thank god we could take a right turn on red. If you were wondering where, it was where the mercury vapor model 13s are.
Good example here of something I'm still noticing, even on new installs. What is that extender box between the visor and the signal housing? I see it randomly on Fortran signals, and there's a massive one on this Eagle signal.
I believe that's to house the reflector back when incandescent lamps were used in these type of signals. I've noticed new installs that still have them and I guess they haven't changed the molds yet.
I've also noticed that on the Fortran signals, the extender box varies in depth too, sometimes on the same signal.
The reflectors for DuraSig crosswalk signals mount on the back side of the door. The lamp housing portion is part of the door molding and is a feature on many square lens ped signals in some way. They place a distance between the lens and lamp to better fill the larger area square lens. Some older signals you could open up two doors, one for the lamp housing and one for the wiring. They are obviously not needed with LEDs but dont expect the molds to be updated.
Eagle has only done minor updates to the DURASIG ped molds, including ribs inside the housing, other than that...nothing has been changed (to the pedestrian signal version) since the 70s. The actual DURASIG tradename was discontinued in 1993, the molds were never changed.
