Cooper OVF
Found this brand new in box Cooper OVF at Restore today. It's a fairly common light used for new installs in Ontario. This one is 400w HPS and sports a tri-tap ballast that's huge. It didn't come with a lamp or PC so I stuck a new Sylvania 400w HPS and used a GE shorting cap I got from Mike to light it up.

Note the cardboard looking thing in the top left pic, it's a ballast shield that's common in a lot of Canadian cobraheads. My R47 also had one but it was cut away.

Good find!

Stopped in a ReStore today myself .. as with the past couple times I went there, I left with the same amount of stuff I went in with .. nothing.

Nice find Joe!! I wish our ReStore had good stuff like this.

Thanks! Restore can sometimes be a hit and miss but there are some in my area that usually have something interesting lol.

Very nice, I have always liked the OVF and the OVY, They have a nice modern look to them.

Nice find! I wish our restores here have cool stuff, I mean I found an OV-10 at a re-store, I still have it. But still.

The re-stores here are less impressive now, they have way less stuff, I think they get rid of the cool stuff now because they didn't sell well or something.

I like the OVF, probably only because they were used here lol. They're very sleek fixtures and look good in FCO. The ones here all have no PC sockets. The first time I saw an OVF with a PC socket I was like "Huh?" the position of the PC didn't seem right to me. I was expecting the PC socket to be in the same position as it is on the OVH, OVZ, and OVX. I noticed that the relfector is smaller than the refractor rim. There's some "empty space" between the gasket and the edge of the refractor. Glad your GE shorting cap is coming in handy. Very Happy

Thanks! Restores here are hit and miss but streetlights don't show up that often at the Restore. Usually the HID fixtures that show up are wallpacks xP.

I got a 70 watt MH ballast at the Re-Store today for 10 dollars! Nice score for me. They sometimes have stuff like that. What I would install it in, I dunno. But yeah.

Awesome Joe! I have never seen any HID fixtures at my Restore (Stratford, CT) I went there specifically looking for one but came home empty handed I also noticed Canada also has a shield around the main breaker in the load center where the US does not
One more thing why is there no 277V tap? Does Canada not have 277V available? In the US bigger buildings usually have 120/208/480 Available but I have never seen a building with 347V in the US

This ballast is 120/277/347V so there is a 277V tap.

347V is only in Canada. The Canadian electric code doesn't allow phase-to-phase ballasts without an isolated secondary so a special ballast is required for voltages like 208 or 240V. There were some 150W HPS GE post tops for sale at a ReStore along I-395 near US 6.

Thanks! 70w MH ballasts are always useful especially for 10 bucks lol. If you put a switch on the ignitor you can make a dual 70w MH/100w MV light which is pretty neat. And plus, 100w MV is my favourite wattage to use indoors since it's just the right brightness xP.

Yeah I heard of 277v being used here but it must be really rare and I suspect it's only used to run imported American equipment since 347v is used instead for the most part. The tri-tap ballasts are very common here instead of multi-tap ballasts for the code reasons the Mike stated. All ballasts on a phase to phase circuit are CWI type which is more expensive and more lossy than a CWA so those voltages are rarely used to run HID lighting.
