Light up Gumball.
Took my gumball off to see if it fits in a 12" traffic light. Turns out it dosen't so I stuck the 12" LED inside and lit it up. Almost looks like a real gumball now.

it's a fire gumball like Boston's fire NEMAs lol.

Heh, I guess I could also get a can of clear red spraypaint and paint the bulb red lol. Are the fire NEMAs still used in Boston? I would imagine something like HPS (with a red filter) or LED replacing them.

They were used with those outdoor fire box pull stations used on street corners back in the day. we still have them in cranston but jsut the boxes, no fire nema lights. i'm not sure if the pull stations work any more but they're obselete now because everyone has cell phones now. i think the fire nemas are still in use in boston though. unfortunatly in david F's pics i see CFLs being used... Rolling Eyes There were some Mv versions and HPS versions but most are incandescent. They run 24/7 too (with shorting caps in) which is pointless IMO since it does no good in broad daylight. so yeah, they're still up but don't really serve any real purpose anymore lol.

Yeah Toronto dosen't have any outdoor pull stations anymore so we don't have any fire NEMAs or similar left in use. I think NYC still has pull boxes though. I think they use this orange light up stick thing which goes the PC socket to mark where the pull stations are though.

I was thinking... I wonder if a NEMA bucket would fit a traffic light. It would be pretty funny to see a three section 12" traffic light with NEMA buckets mounted on the end of a mast arm. Laughing It would be similar to one opf those westinghouse Hollywood Special fixtures that had three (either 700 or 1000W MV lamps) but got converted to 3X 400W MH and later 1X MH with the two other opticals left unlit (tacky!)
