Mini Striplights - Details
Click here for full pic. Here's some shots of the construction details on my mini T5 striplights. The newer one has endplates that are part of the fixture while the older light has separate screw on endplates. The sockets used are also different too, the new one has snap-in sockets while the older one has screw in sockets. Both have similar ballasts and starter sockets though.

I also included a shot of the tag on my newer fixture, note that it was made in early 2009, I think it's one of my newest preheaters.

Hmm interesting to see the differences. Smile The undercabinet lights that I'll be gutting if i cna get them to make the the McCann Lighting shoplites have Y-slot mini-bi-pin sockets that screw on as well, though with longer brackets IIRC... The ballasts are oddly potted, though only for one lamp. I guess for quieter operation? Unless they have caps in them...

Interesting, I think all step up ballasts here are potted. The F13 ballast shouldn't have a cap though.

Does that mean a 4-6-8 and a 14-15-20 choke is a step down ballast sicne they're not potted?

The 4-6-8 and 14-15-20 ballasts are inductors, they regulate the current to the lamp by means of inductance. Problem is, simple inductive ballasts can only be used with lamps that have a arc voltage that's half the supply voltage. The easiest way to tell is by the number of wires, a ballast with only two wires are always an simple inductive ballast.

22W is also "choke"ballast not sure about those appliance 25W ballasts though as i dont own one yet

thats a real nice fixture too! i suppose these could still be made as small wattage preheat ballasts are in production
