LPS R47
If you're wondering how LPS would look behind a drop lens, well here you go. Here's a collage of my R47 running a 18w LPS, the top row was taken during startup and the bottom at full brightness.

Cool! How did you set this up? Is the socket just stuck in there while the ballast is remote?

Nice! What wattage HPS is this as bright as? I'd guess about as bright as a 35w HPS?
gailgrove   [Jan 02, 2012 at 11:38 PM]
Not even that much, a 18 watt LPS only produces about 1800 lumens, a 35 watt HPS puts out 2500.

So it puts out the light of a ~16w HPS (if that existed) Razz Laughing

Yeah,I just swapped the sockets and remote ballasted it, and I can see why low watt LPS isn't common the entire fixture draws 32 watts. Shocked
gailgrove   [Jan 03, 2012 at 12:07 AM]
Ouch! That's a pretty high ballast loss!
streetlight98   [Jan 03, 2012 at 01:20 AM]
I guess higher wattage LPS lights are more effcient. A 180w LPS gives 32000 lumens which is in between 250 and 310w HPS (29000 and 37000 lumens).

Thanks Aaron!

Cool photos!

LPS lamps are incredibly efficient. The ballasts, on the other hand, not so much.

A fluorescent ballast can also drive the 18, 35, 55,and 90w LPS tubes.

You mean a electronic ballast, magnetic fluorescent ballasts usually don't work.
