Preheat #4
This one doesn't light at all, though the lamps very faintly flicker/glow. I'm thinking both the lamps and starters are dead since I don't here a clicking sound. I offered to fix all of them, but no response from my cousin's grandmother. Those lamps are really black eh? All but either one or two of the lamps had black endcaps too. :-)

Cool, I like the shoplights with the angular reflector more than the curved reflector ones.

Me too. i hope she lets me fixt these cuz i'd hate to see the ballast die becuase of dead lamps and dead starters. Crying or Very sad This looks about the size and shape of my '73 shoplight, though I'm taking a guess and saying these are from the 50's or 60's though i'm not sure.

Not sure what brand these are. None of the lamps had the etches visable. Persnonally whenever I install tubes I try and isntall than so that the etch is visable.

Good luck getting this one! Maybe these three can go in YOUR garage someday? Maybe one of the ones from the basement could replace the Metalux turret light?

LOL I was actually thinking of using one of these in the garage. at least i know all of the fixtures work (one's missing lamps but it likely just needs a starter or two) whereas the fixtures in my aunt and uncles basement are a mess. these have good supply wiring unlike the bad wiring in my aunt and uncles basement.

What's the wiring like here? Modern NM "Romex" cable?
I'd put 4 of these in your garage if it was me...when you get your own place you could have...hmmm...like 8 preheaters in there (I'm picturing maybe a 2-car garage). You're one lucky dude, just remember that! Very Happy

it's ordinary white romex. the wiring is 70s at the latest. it's all neat and orderly too. at my aunt and uncles the wiring is of all different ages but the wiring for the preheaters is thin cloth insulated wire that in all states of disrepair and fixer-uppers.

Oh, yeah I'm sure it's been added onto and "repaired" over the decades. Remember, that place might very well have aluminum wiring too which was often misused with incompatible devices (switches, receptacles, etc) which could be a MAJOR FIRE HAZARD! I'd suggest bringing in a "real" electrician if you guys are in doubt. It might be kinda expensive but it's less than a new house I'm sure.
