Dayburning GE M-250R
This guy and another one just like it have been dayburning for as long as I can remember. The refractor is really brown and my camera accurately displays how green it is. There's no pole number so I can't report it either. The lamp is extremely dimmed out too.

Nice find! almost all mercs here were either scrapped or converted to HPS in the 90s.

Thanks! Most here were removed as well, but the western and more rural half of Cranston where i live has quite a few mercs since they just added in HPS lights and kept the existing mercs in place when the area started developing. But now they only serivice 100 watters so the number of mercs is lowering. Sad

Well, I still like the fact that your utility still services 100w mercs, if it was here I guess it would have been zapped into a 70w HPS. Razz

NEW UPDATE: this was replaced with a HPS M-250R2. Crying or Very sad the only mercs left are a 100W MV M-250A2 FCO and a dayburning M-250R with a dim lamp and bornwed out lens. i remember 6 out the 8 fixtures used to be mercs, one ITT 13, two M-250A2 FCOs, and three M-250Rs Now there are 5 M-250R2s, one OVZ, and an M-250R and a 13.

UPDATE: This no longer works- by day or night. Sad I'm betting it's the lamp, but apparently there's no street name and the poles aren't numbered. I'll have fun reporting these. Rolling Eyes One of the HPS lights is cycling too. I'm hoping the mercs are 100W MV since if they're 175W they have no hope of being kept up. The ITT 13 next to the new pole also doesn't work. It used to come on some nights (and it'd look like it was relamped) and others it wouldn't come on but now it never comes on. Maybe the PC has a short and the circut is open? The M-250R I'm betting it's the lamp. The other dayburning M-250R (with an even dimmer lamp) is still dayburning and the M-250A2 FCO after the ITT 13 still works, though very dimmed as well.

bummer maybe they stopped relamping 100w mercs?
streetlight98   [Mar 21, 2013 at 02:08 AM]
i think it depends on the lineman since normally 100W mercs are fixed but once in a while they're replaced. either this was 175W or maybe the ballast went from dayburning for over ten years. the new fixture is about as bright as a 100W but this light seems a little dim to have been 175W though it was dayburning so long anything's possible.

another possibility is that the pc socket had gone bad, something may have gotten loose inside. joe maurath told me he got a merc that was right by his house and it was dayburning for 2 years. they replaced it because the pc socket stopped working when they tried to fix it. turns out it was a loose wire inside.
streetlight98   [Mar 21, 2013 at 07:58 PM]
hmm yeah with the fixture dayburning all that time i'm sure the PC socket had become brittle over time. looks like a 100W merc in there but i'm pretty sure the new light is 100W HPS. NGrid is wierd like that sometimes though and will replace a 100W merc with a 100W HPS or a 400W merc with a 400W HPS. i think under certain circumstances they have to use the same wattage to keep the kWh usage the same or something like that.
Antstar85   [Mar 21, 2013 at 11:52 PM]
We are still relamping mercs of all wattages. If they need to be replaced, 100 watts and sometimes 175 watts go 70 watt HPS.
streetlight98   [Mar 21, 2013 at 11:59 PM]
yeah my OV-10 was repalced with a 50W HPS M-250R2! That's too dim IMO. I think 50W HPS is too dim period unless the lights are mounted every pole and the poles are on both sides of the road lol.
Silverliner14B   [Mar 22, 2013 at 12:06 AM]
50w hps is used on all the residential streets here in simi valley, ca. theres a light on every third property line, i'd say roughly 100-150 feet spacing between the lights. talk about a complete row of lights down the street all glowing soft and dim lol!
streetlight98   [Mar 22, 2013 at 12:27 AM]
100ft is pretty close together. my house alone is 42ft end to end, the property being about 75ft. The poles on my street are about 150-200ft apart with a 100w light on every-other pole for the most part with one light being 50W. The first half of my street is 50W every pole. the headlights outshine them. Confused
streetlight98   [Nov 14, 2016 at 08:38 PM]
UPDATE: the M-250R2 that was installed on this pole as been replaced with a 40W AEL Autobahn. So have all the other lights on this road.
