15" Fluorescent sink light Over the kitchen sink at my grandparents' house. It's a 15" RS strip light bolted up there with a troffer lens cut to size. The lens lifts up and comes out, as it rests on four wooden stubs on the long sides. My grandpa and great-grandpa put this up as a "team" as they did with many around-the-house projects. There was origionally a 20w preheat strip according to my grandpa (I'm not sure if i was born yet or not) but the ballast refused to fully light the lamp. He said the ends lit up orange but the lamp wouldn't light. So this went up. The lens is kinda yellow from being up so long. They could use a new one, but i think my great-grandpa's carpentry skills would need to be used to cut the new lens. Keywords: Lamps

Anyways I wonder if the old preheat strip had a stuck starter if you manage to find it try replacing the lamp and starter. Razz As for the lens you can get a new one at HD/Lowe's and cut it down to size by scoring a line on it and then snapping the excess off. (a Dremel or a band saw will work too) I've changed the panels in my kitchen before to newer clearer ones.

Maybe. I think the old fixture is long gone though. Sad I wouldn't be surprised if there's a lamp for it in the basement though since I found some 1960's incnadescent boxes with NOS lamps STILL in them! Shocked As for the new lens, I'll bring it up with my grandpa when i see him next friday. I don' think they really care, but i'll talk to them about it anyways. i'll buy the lens myself. I'd imagine they don't cost much anyways, but I don't tend to look at the troffer section since I don't have room for one.

Sometimes the trigger start ballasts wont light lamps, especially with a lack of ground

He said the old one has starters so i think the old one was preheat. He said this one acts up some times. I noticed if it's been on for awhile, if you turn it off and then back on really fast, it sometimes won't come back on for about a minute. I'm not sure if this is grounded or not.

It's probably the starter, I've seen them do that before

This current one is rapid start though.
