what color are the LEDs?
joe_347V   [Dec 24, 2012 at 04:37 PM]
I'm guessing red, since that's what most LEDs exit signs lamps here are.
streetlight98   [Dec 24, 2012 at 06:23 PM]
i was thinking that, but most red LEDs actually have red tinted silicone.

Hmm the ones here have clear LEDs but the light emitted from them is red.
lite_lover   [Dec 24, 2012 at 08:13 PM]
Yes, this lamps clear LEDs emit red light.

I HATE led exit signs. I just got a new fluorescent sign Very Happy Razz

I'm glad they sill make fluorescent exit signs! I'm thinking incandescent exit signs are phased out though?
joe_347V   [Feb 27, 2013 at 01:11 AM]
Well, the newer LED exit signs aren't really that bad. The retrofits on the hand aren't very good.

New fluorescent and incandescent exit signs have been banned in Canada since the mid 2000s though. Confused There's a law here that says signs must use less than 5w (incl. ballast) per word.

Why? I would guess lifespan was an issue? Although incandescent lamps usually outlast the PL fluorescent lamps and the T5s
streetlight98   [Feb 27, 2013 at 08:47 PM]
Well the issue with LEDs is that they're dim to begin with and they just keep getting dimmer since they run 24/7. If they made the LED exit signs brighter so you don't have to be in a dark room to tell it's lit, then I wouldn't mind them but the LED retrofits in my school are so dim you can't barely see them as it is, nevermind in a smoke-filled situation. IMO, exits signs need to be really bright so that they can easily be seen in the event of a fire. I sort of think exit signs should be green too since:
A. the human eye can detect green easier
B. Fire has light in the red spectrum, so green exit signs will contrast better
C. In general, red means "Stop" or "No-something" so a red exit sign just doesn't make sense IMO.

No incandescent is not too good. fluorescent last over 20,000h Smile
well Canada you are good and I will have to move to you as the USA will be the next Greece but
fluorescent is better in some ways. Wink Mike I put the sites for exit under the photo of my exit sign
