EYE Iwasaki HF125PD mercury vapour lamp lit. I got that lamp WAY back, in early 2008! I decided to test it tonight and I was surprised by the actual brightness of that lamp, and I've been hypnotized by the beauty of that lamp! Back when it was in service, this lamp was extremely dim (as much as a 15W inc.!), since I've seen it in person before getting it. Overdriving it by ~500mA seems to give it back some health! The only reason for lumen drop in mercury lamps is blackning, so if the lamp returned to its former brightness by this overdrive, this means that this overdrive is severe and mercury pressure is much higher then normal, increasing the risk of an arctube explosion.

Keep in mind it didn't get back its full original lumen output (6 250 lm), but around 2 500 lm... It's only overdriven by 500 mA, which isn't too bad. Arc tube rupture by overdriving is much more likely to happen with serious overdrives like twice the rated wattage. But I heard of a story of a 175W lamp being run on a 400W mercury floodlight for like 20 years and the lamp was still working!

What the heck is the setup here? Is that your R37? How is this set up?!

Eeeyup, that's my R37 xD. I just connected the ballast to a medium socket and ran my 125W lamp. But now I have two ballasts for that lamp, my NEMA and my 100W F-Can ballast.

Interesting, I run mine on a 70w MH ballast with the ignitor disabled.
