This fixture is very buzzy.

Would an M-400 R2 refractor fit this?

Uhh yeah. GE still uses the same glassware from the Form-400 to the current M400R2.

I remember being told a while ago that the footprint on the FOrm 400 was a bit differen't. xD But you are te expert on it so yeah I believe you.

Is this the 1950's or 1960's version of this?

Obviously 1960s version because of the grey paint and black reflector gasket.

This fixture has a LOUD ballast! I dunno why. Why would the ballast be so loud? I can hear this fixture on the other side of the building.

When I was taking the night shots this was buzzing very very loud. Must have loose coils! I wonder how loud this one would be inside...

The ballast is loud becuase it's been running dusk to dawn for 50 years. Razz

I have found noisy issues to be more common on GE fixtures than other models.....

Michael, my GE M-250R (second generation) also makes a lot of noises and it's from the 80s.....
But my OV-14B which was in service for 50 years is one of the quietest fixtures I have....so it's not that.......

The other M-400 on the end isn't loud at all. I can't hear THAT one.

My OV10 is dead silent. Shocked (OK, not dead, but it is silent. Laughing ) My NOS M-400 is almost as loud as a microwave! Not quite, but almost.

My 1965 GE NEMA was the loudest of all... But I fixed it with Elmer's glue!

The original ballast in my R47 was much quieter than the Advance that I replaced it with. The Venture that I replaced the Advance with is quieter than the Advance but is still louder than the original one.

elmer's glue? How does that work?! Shocked and yeah, Advance ballasts I find to be noisey, but one of the best quality replacement ballast companies on the market IMO.

Another posibility: The ballast could be lose in this fixture. xD

could be. The door or reflector could also be loose since the refractor is gone. My M-400 split door is louder without the refractor since the door rattles. The door has a little wiggle room that the refractor seals up.

I think the Original M-400 had the same top housing as the M-1000, the shape looks VERY similar and the attributes.
