Poor Form 109...
Here is a Form 109 on an abandoned utility pole over a grassy fenced in parking lot, as you see the model 25 across from it is newer than the Form 109 of course.

But the Form 109 looks in bad shape. Cracked refractor, I hope it doesn't fall and get busted. I tried to get this light but I don't think I will be able to get it.

I dunno where the remote ballast was, I couldn't find it. And there were little pegs on the pole so If I wanted to I could of climbed it. xD

The pegs were used before bucket trucks. We have them on a few of our utility poles STILL IN SERVICE! Shocked The pegs start about 10 feet up the pole though and continue all the way up until about 5ft from the top on the ones here. I saw a radial wave about 20 feet off to the side of the road in a bunch of trees on Atwood Ave in Cranston. It doesn't have a lamp. It's on a cool decorative arm. I want to get it too, but I don't have any connections to NGrid. Sad

Well if you knew someone with a bucket truck then you could get the light, no one would question a bucket truck.
LilCinnamon   [Feb 20, 2012 at 06:52 PM]
I could rent a bucket truck. xD Can't you rent those things? I don't know anyone with one.
gailgrove   [Feb 20, 2012 at 07:00 PM]
Yeah you can, I would like to rent one someday and save some old lights from around here!
streetlight98   [Feb 20, 2012 at 07:15 PM]
My luck if i rented a bucket truck a National grid truck would roll by and question me. Sad Laughing The light is totally hidden from view in the summer, but the pole and ground around it is clearly visable. If I could get it, I'd take the arm too. When i first moved into the area back in 2003 when i was 5, there was a working incandescent radial wave on the pole to the right of the Nathen Westcott House here . There was also another one down the street that was working and it was removed during an off-road pole renewal here . You can sort of see the old pole to the left of the new pole with a box on it.

I highly don't ever recomend trying to rent a bucket truck and take down old equipment, if you are caught you can actually serve some time because it's considered stealing.
gailgrove   [Feb 20, 2012 at 08:34 PM]
Well I would be getting permission to take any of the ones I want, Ian is a different story...
Antstar85   [Feb 20, 2012 at 08:37 PM]
I'm just wondering how in the heck is Ian getting all these fixtures at an alarming rate.
TiCoune66   [Feb 20, 2012 at 08:42 PM]
I already climbed on a pole with those pegs Laughing It was on a abandoned railway telephone line. I also climbed on other poles using trees Shocked

I can tell even after all those years, chances are the pegs are still very strong! However I still recommend NOT to climb on them. Not because of the pegs, but because you can simply slip on a peg and fall... I've been kinda unsafe to do it, I even remember having a close call and almost falling off the top of a pole Shocked Fortunately I've never hurt myself climbing poles LOL.
LilCinnamon   [Feb 20, 2012 at 10:29 PM]
Well I wasn't planning to steal this one anyway! I tried to get permission and got turned down, so no more hope of getting this fixture.

I get them often because I find them and ask, so I get them.
joe_347V   [Feb 20, 2012 at 11:12 PM]
Cool find! Well I guess the only way to get this then is to catch the line crew working on the pole or did they also turn down your request.
LilCinnamon   [Feb 20, 2012 at 11:23 PM]
Well I dunno if the crew will WORK on it. It has been up here since probably the 1940's and they left it there to rot like that.

It IS Xcel but its over a parking lot while the model 25 is over the road. I am not sure..
joe_347V   [Feb 20, 2012 at 11:37 PM]
I mean if you see them working on the model 25 or something, maybe they'll take down the 109 for you.
Silverliner14B   [Feb 21, 2012 at 12:01 AM]
Well why do you want this Form 109? The glass is permanently attached to the metal and is not replaceable.
streetlight98   [Feb 21, 2012 at 12:47 AM]
@ Ian, can you get a full shot of this showing the ground too? Smile
Form109   [Feb 21, 2012 at 05:45 AM]
i agree with dave,i think a small lip of metal (from the reflector) is rolled and creased into a grove in the glass to fit the glass to the Reflector?...i doubt you'd be able to fit a new glass for it....there was a Guy on LG selling Form 109 Optical assemblies a while back cause i sent a messege about one...i wonder if he sold them all.

anyways i agree also with those who think its a bad idea to take old equipment, and climb the old pole....they've had plenty of times where i've seen a busted pole on the ground with fixtures relatively intact laying on the ground,it just wasn't worth being caught as they were in pretty high traffic area's.
GullWhiz   [Feb 21, 2012 at 02:44 PM]
Hey Dave, Shocked you never know, the top part of the fixture is good, and what if one day there's a NOS ONLY glass and reflector assembly was found on EBay???? Still worthy! Arm is a plus since its a GE arm...the lamp is a plus......I would TRY to get it (LEGALLY) the property right there has to be owned by somebody, and someone to contact, make deals, etc etc.......

Although I agree and question on Ian's growing his collection at an alarming rate.....I got my collection legally, and permission from other people with written release notes. And even I didn't get all this fast.....took me maybe about 4 to 5 years for my number of collection...
LilCinnamon   [Feb 21, 2012 at 02:59 PM]
I am not stealing anything. How I get it up so fast is I look for construction sites and ask and all that. Since Denver and around has LOTS of construction sites. And I also just get lucky. I end up in the right place and get lucky, especially with those three M-1000's and OV-25's, They were about to be obliterated and crushed. I got to them RIGHT before that happened and was able to keep them. I ask around a lot and get lucky. I don't get a streetlight every day so it's not growing VERY fast. The trick to growing your collection is try hard, look around, go to construction sites you know.
joe_347V   [Feb 21, 2012 at 09:20 PM]
Yeah I would save the top part too since you never what shows up, I think there was a guy on LG that were selling the globes a while back. Shocked
Silverliner14B   [Feb 21, 2012 at 09:43 PM]
That's true, maybe either you could find a replacement globe or get the existing one fixed with some creavity (maybe someone could get the glass recast?). I used to get 109 parts years ago from some yard. Plus with this oldie you can also treat yourself with a nice vintage clear merc lamp. Wink
