My two M-1000's.
I gutted and cleaned these fixtures, so now they don't have ballasts in them and I set one of them up for a remote ballast with my 400 watt MH/MV ballast box.

When I get a new ballast I will put it in one of them and make sure it is 120 volts.

Any ideas where I can get a ballast?

Yeah I see what you mean about these being painted.

Any electric supply house such as Graybar, Rexel, Wesco, or your local shop will carry 1000 watt MH/MV ballasts These are typically multitap ballasts, which means they can be wired for 120, 208, 240, or 277 volts.
mercuryvaporrocks   [Feb 11, 2012 at 01:44 PM]
They sell ballasts on amazon.com too.
LilCinnamon   [Feb 11, 2012 at 02:10 PM]
Yeah but those places the ballasts will cost like probably 200 dollars.

For the fun of it I COULD make it 1000 watt HPS. xD That would be BRIGHT and funny. xD
NiMo   [Feb 11, 2012 at 02:11 PM]
The ballast does not cost that much. More like $70. I work at Graybar, so I know.
LilCinnamon   [Feb 11, 2012 at 02:20 PM]
Oh I see, But that is still too expensive for me.. Maybe after I get a job I would be able to buy a ballast myself.

Like I said if you want a cheap MH ballast, they pop up from time to time on eBay.

Why not pic a lower wattage like 400?
NiMo   [Feb 12, 2012 at 07:32 PM]
Using a smaller lamp would knock the light distribution way out of whack. Besides, for a true refurb, restoration, you need the appropriate wattage for the fixture.

I hardly think that he's trying to be historically accurate in his restoration, besides it's HIS light so he could make it 35w HPS if he wanted to.
NiMo   [Feb 12, 2012 at 08:02 PM]
35W HPS? Now there's something I'd like to see.

THAT was a example, just sayin' Rolling Eyes

Keep searching ebay, sometimes I see 1000 watt MV/MH ballasts on there at reasonable prices.

Or ReStore, I've never been in one (hopefully that will change later this week!) but from what I hear they have lots of lighting/electrical stuff so you might get lucky!

Some Restores don't stock HID stuff but the ones that do sold them cheaply.
