Hmm. I know on mine, you open the door and slide the door to the side to get it off the fixture. These hinges look different though...

The doors on cobraheads are usually easier to get off when they are facing down. On my OV-25, the door has to be swung almost all the way back (toward the pole and parallel to the ground, with the lens facing toward the sky, if it were mounted,) to allow it to be removed from the hinge. I presume this was to keep the heavy door & lens from falling to the ground should it become unlatched and swing open. These are BIG, heavy luminaires compared to what's installed nowadays.
LilCinnamon   [Jan 26, 2012 at 04:30 AM]
Yeah I know, much heavier than my M-400's.

I am glad this OV-25 is in good shape, was surprised to find one. Well two actually.

I am going to trade the other OV-25 for a fixture I want and I still need a refractor for this one...

I wonder how much this weighs compared to a Powerlite B2255, since they're roughly the same size as each other.
LilCinnamon   [Jan 26, 2012 at 01:40 PM]
I bet the B2255 weighs more since it is much bigger. How heavy is your B2255?
GullWhiz   [Jan 26, 2012 at 02:02 PM]
Did you open the door all the way first before taking it off, they don't come off if they are halfway open to prevent door flying off.....

This fixture probably weighs the same as my OV-14B from 1957
LilCinnamon   [Jan 26, 2012 at 02:13 PM]
Yeah, the door still won't come off. A part of it wants to go out, but the other is stuck in there, so it's hard.
joe_347V   [Jan 27, 2012 at 01:20 AM]
@Ian I weighed my B2255 it's around 40 lbs with a replacement 250w MV/MH ballast, and I think the original ballast was roughly the same. They also came with 400w and 1kW ballasts so I imagine those would be a lot heavier.
LilCinnamon   [Jan 27, 2012 at 12:40 PM]
This OV-25 might be around the same...

The only person who has BOTH in his collection is Niall. xD He can compare.

My American Electric 125 Series weighs about as much as this light.
gailgrove   [Jan 27, 2012 at 04:03 PM]
I somehow doubt that, the 125s that I have weigh nowhere near as much as my OV-25. As for the OV-25 vs B2255 I would say they weigh close to the same, though the B2255 does weigh a bit more, it also depends greatly on the ballast and since my 250 B2255 has a replacement ballast it weighs less than it would of with the original ballast, the OV-25 still has its original ballast.
GullWhiz   [Jan 27, 2012 at 04:23 PM]
I would think it depends on the ballast......depeending on type of ballasts and sorts....I weigh my fixtures with a scale I use to weigh myself........

2 ways......

One way is put fixture directly on scale...but some kinds are tricky.....

Other way is...first weigh yourself.... what you weigh is "Y"
Now pick up fixture and get on scale weigh yourself holding the fixture itself...the answer with you holding fixture is "X"
Then X subtract by Y equals Z that is X-Y=Z.

Z is the answer!

Ian, I weighed the original ballast and a B2255 with the original 250w HPS ballast should be around 43-44 lbs.
streetlight98   [Jan 28, 2012 at 02:08 AM]
My M-400 weighs in at about 40-45 pounds.
joe_347V   [Jan 28, 2012 at 02:55 AM]
I wonder how much a 400w B2255 would weigh, anyone here want to weigh some 400w ballasts?
gailgrove   [Jan 28, 2012 at 02:58 AM]
I can weigh mine, on Monday.
GullWhiz   [Jan 28, 2012 at 03:03 AM]
My GE M-100 is 15 pounds LOL
LilCinnamon   [Feb 15, 2012 at 01:17 PM]
Do you think I should re-paint this fixture? And clean it and restore it back to a "new" state? Even though it's already in a great state as it is.. I just wonder if I should do that. What paint would I use?
joe_347V   [Feb 15, 2012 at 02:44 PM]
Well, I think most people who repainted their OV 25 used Krylon Hammered Silver, but it looks like this one is still in pretty good shape.
streetlight98   [Feb 15, 2012 at 08:56 PM]
I would personally repaint/restore the one with the bullet holes and keep this one alone if you end up keeping both. If you ged rid of the other one, I would paint this using a good primer and then Rustoleum Hammered Silver paint.
