M-400 R2 after cleaning.
Cleaned out the inside, you don't see much differences but I cleaned it.

Gasket fell off while drying it, so it's not currently ON the fixture, gonna let that dry before I get some double sided tape and put it on.

Gonna test this after I let it dry a bit.

Tony, would you be interested in this light for a trade? I am still not sure if I WILL trade it, but I am considering it.

But one thing, if I trade, I will wait until you get refractors for your lights, cause I want the M-400 R3 with a refractor.
Antstar85   [Oct 05, 2011 at 01:09 AM]
I can go along with that Ian. Just let me know what your plan is. Wink
LilCinnamon   [Oct 06, 2011 at 07:48 AM]
Now I am considering not trading this, because I like this M-400 R2. Plus I will be getting lots of streetlights in the future...

If I Find more fixtures in the future, which models would you be willing to take?
streetlight98   [Oct 06, 2011 at 07:51 PM]
If you want Ian, I have some lights for sale if you or anyone else wants them. See my gallery for pics and PM me if interested. Smile

Like what lights?
streetlight98   [Oct 06, 2011 at 09:26 PM]
The ones in the "Lights of Mine For Sale" album in my gallery. Wink

Also... I noticed that this M-400 R2 has a rough texture.. Could that be how it was originally or did it get that way after years in service?
streetlight98   [Oct 06, 2011 at 10:25 PM]
My M-400 split door has a rough texture. Powder coat paint finishes aren't always perfect, but they will last longer and are more resistant to scratches.

You know what I think? Xcel energy stopped using ALTO's for relamping and started using GE lamps, because BOTH My M-400 R3 FCO and M-400 R2 both had GE lamps in them, that look very new, that look recently relamped.
streetlight98   [Oct 07, 2011 at 10:42 AM]
It's possible. The GE's will last a little while longer. I honestly think Sylvania's lamps are the best though
LilCinnamon   [Oct 08, 2011 at 06:38 AM]
I think it was a good idea to use medium fixtures for 250w HPS. I don't think Xcel energy does that anymore. Anything in a medium fixture is only 400 watts, and 250 and below always get a small fixture. I always suggest using 250w in a medium fixture instead of a small fixture. It may be more expensive at first, but it will save you money over time. Because of how long a streetlight stays up, if you put a brand new M-400 R2 250w HPS fixtures up, and have the right kind of lamp, like a GE lamp, it could last about a year or two without having to change the lamp out. And keep doing that, the ballast will last longer, everything will be better. I dunno how they don't get that!
streetlight98   [Oct 08, 2011 at 01:50 PM]
Well, ideally a HPS lamp should last 4-5 years without having to change the lamp. A year or two is a terrible life span for a HPS lamp. Confused
gailgrove   [Oct 08, 2011 at 01:52 PM]
It's pretty simple, 50-175 watts = small, 200-400 watts = medium and 700-1kW = large. Here we only use small fixture even for 400 watts. Rolling Eyes
streetlight98   [Oct 08, 2011 at 01:59 PM]
Ick. We don't use small 400w fixtures thankfully. We use 50-250w small and 400w medium on utility poles. We use 250w and 400w medium on RIDOT owned poles. Older RIDOT installations have medium fixtures though. They don't like to mix small and medium 250w fixtures or FCO with SCO here.

Rolling Eyes Ack 400w HPS small fixtures, it looks like my utility doesn't use them anymore.
LilCinnamon   [Oct 09, 2011 at 02:10 AM]
They should call the new small GE fixture the M-175. xD Cause that's how high it will go.
gailgrove   [Oct 09, 2011 at 02:11 AM]
What new small GE fixture?
streetlight98   [Oct 09, 2011 at 11:03 AM]
I think he's talking hyopthetically.
LilCinnamon   [Oct 13, 2011 at 05:37 AM]
I really wonder why the "25" and "40" NEMA tags on the M-400 R2 are so different from each other. The "40" is much narrower while the "25" is much wider. I never got why they did that.
streetlight98   [Oct 13, 2011 at 07:45 PM]
Well, there was a narrower 25 just like the 40 too, but the tags are probably from a different year. GE has used numerous number fonts while other comanies tend to stick with the same font.
