My new M-400 R3 FCO
This has been in service over Bowles and Wadsworth for a while, they re-did the intersection and I snagged this light, and an M-400 R2 FCO too, but the M-400 R2 was missing hte door and the reflector was busted. I picked that up for spare parts.

Anyway this is 400w HPS, came with a GE Lucalox lamp, and is bright! Works nice. Light is in good condition, except for a bit of the hinge broke off, but that isn't a big deal. the door still stays in.

The FCO glass is PLASTIC though! Why is it PLASTIC?

You know before I read the description I though this was from eBay. Razz I haven't even heard of a plastic FCO lens before. Shocked

Me neither. Must be a replacement

I think it is made out of plexiglass. It has a rubber gasket around the piece of plastic. Anyway I noticed the door has all the screw holes that are supposed to be for a power door, and also has a place for a capacitor! Looks like in manufacturing these lights they make a bulk amount of doors and half of it goes to the power door assembly and the other half goes to the single door assemblies. And the ones on the power door assemblies they cut the doors in half and connect them to the hinges.

That would seem a probable answer. I don't see the need to make 2 different casts. You don't have to worry about breaking this FCO lens. Razz

What exactly are the generations of the M-400 R3? Like how many were there and how were they different?
streetlight98   [Aug 19, 2011 at 02:16 AM]
It's all one generation. The internal wiring ma change, but it still remains the same generation.

I am not sure about that, I have seen two completely different top housings of the M-400 R3, The doors too. The door on the M-400 R3 pic I took on the ground is different that the one I have, also the housing.

maybe sometime after 2000 GE changed the M-400 and M-400A designs a bit.

I also noticed my M-400 R3 compared to Tony's M-400 R3.. Mine has much smaller bumps to where the hinges would go on the power door, I wonder why mine are much smaller than his. Any ideas?
streetlight98   [Sep 29, 2011 at 08:36 PM]
Well, his are older than your M-400. yours has the newer style font on the GE NEMA tags. Unless of course the door was a replacement. The door itself is a newer one.
LilCinnamon   [Sep 29, 2011 at 08:46 PM]
My fixture was made in 2007, I dunno when his was. But the M-400 R3 has been out for a long time. His most likely is older.
streetlight98   [Sep 29, 2011 at 08:49 PM]
Yeah. GE started useing the wider font in 2007. His have the narrower font so they must be from before 2007. I personally like the narrower font.
