General Electric 16A296T Silver Label slimline ballast.
Here's a little surprise found among steel scrap at school! I was taking EMT scraps to the steel dumpster and I found a weirdo slimline fixture laying on top, showing this huge ballast! I obviously couldn't take the whole thing so I asked my teacher for the ballast, saying that "it probably still works". He let me have it, as you can see.

1963 vintage! My oldest slimline ballast and the oldest one I've seen too! And amazingly, it still works! Despite being sound rated D, it is far from being loud...

Nice find, that story is very similar to how I got my CGE ballasts at school. I saw a couple of fluorescent fixtures with old looking ballasts poking out of a scrap pile in the back of the shop and asked my teacher about it. He let me have both of them and even helped me wrap the lights up too. Cool

How cool LOL. I packed mine in two plastic bags and got home on foot from school with it! I definitely didn't get the lightest ballast last Friday LOL!

Thanks, I also use to pick out stuff from the junk bin in physics class. Of course the teacher asked me what I was going to do with all that junk and my classmates looked at me like Shocked Shocked

Here the outside floods and wallpacks were repalced with LEDs. I saw them removing an old wallpack (probably MV) and prepping an LED wall-mounted shoe box (which i actually think looks better than a wallpack honestly). I was too embarassed to ask for the wallpack during passing time though and when i came out of the gym, the LED was up and the guy in the truck was gone. all the MH floods were replaced by LEd floods over x-mas break though.
