Early 60s F20T12 fixture, inside view
Here's a cool artistic shot of the inside of the fixture. The connections were originally made with tape (the modern plastic tape). I replaced them with more appropriate Marrette 31 150°C rated wirenuts. I also added a 2-prong cord and a 4040 connector.

And it's srping! So I took the pic under the sun. ^__^

I would put a grounded cord on there. Its just the safer way. I ground everything with a three prong cord.

Ah ha! Although ill admit I don't ground everything........but if it was HID with metal casing then yes I would......but if I had older fixture with orignal wiring....I test it to see if its safe and make sure no problems....I kinda am a type who likes to preserve the way things were factory made....

True, I could use a 3-prong cord instead. But for some reason I find the 2-prong cord to be more practical LOL. And anyway the fixture has been tested and is totally safe. I also sort of have to deal with what I have in my shop.

Another reason, 3 prong cords are bigger size and when rolled around the fixture they make the fixture larger at that point, which causes some problems when it comes to storing the fixtures. However ALL my 3ft and longer fluorescent fixtures use 3-prong cords.

I usually use three prong cords my all fixtures if they're metal. But for plastic lumes I'll use a two prong cord instead like my poly traffic light.

I always use a 15 foot orange or green grounded outdoor listed cord for my metal lights. My HPS cooper has a 9' white cord though. That was the first cord i got and was origionally on my yardblaster.

I get my cords from a surplus place downtown, they're usually 3 foot indoor grounded ones though. I also used to use old computer cords, replacement power cords from the orange box, and cut to length stuff from the box store too.

I buy the orange ones at Benny's and the green ones at Lowe's. Which ever one has the better price is the one i get. I like the orange cords better though.

I get mine for two bucks a cord and they work pretty well for indoor lights.
