Interesting, I was wondering what the replacement fixtures were.

Yeah, It looks like a testing strip. Im assuming when MTO decides to convert everything the rest of the AE 125 truss lights here will get Autobahns.

Is ontario.. Or at least toronto slowly starting to get LED'ed like here? Last June when I was in the Greater Toronto Area I didn't really see many LED's at the time when I was driving through the city and stuff. All I know that when I moved away from Colorado basically all the CDOT lights were getting replaced with LED's but most of the main cities and streets were still HPS.

Though 2 years later I come back and see that most towns now have done MASS replacments to LED's, There are only a couple cities that havent done mass changeouts, those cities being, Lakewood, Westminster, The city of Denver itself hasn't changed much to LED yet, despite it being the capital city, Aurora, Centennial... And north of Denver I would say Ft Collins and Loveland just do LED's for new replacements. I guess there are plenty of cities that haven't, but some cities that have done mass changouts in this area. The town I live in, Longmont, though I noticed that select roads they have done mass changouts, like Hover st for example, not an HPS light left, but 17th, most of the lights are still HPS.

But, I guess Toronto is slowly going to do that?

Toronto region hasn't gone LED at all yet, except they have had the odd LED test site. Currently there are LED's being used as temp lighting for a transit project in the north end here as well as here . Very strange to me.

Rural Ontario has a lot of LED's now. Some townships in rural Ontario still have their HPS and MV lights but not too many of those around anymore. :/ The GTA golden horse shoe is mostly LED's. My city is still mostly HPS, except all new roads and intersection installs are LED and a lot of higher wattage fixtures were changed out for Cree XSP2's here for a city wide changeover in May and June, but then for some reason that was suddenly halted. One stretch of street actually got its HPS lights put back on! Shocked The citys West, North, and South of my city are completely LED now.

MTO has a couple LED's being used for Cobras in some places, but hasn't implemented a changeover or for all new installs to be LED, nor have they retrofitted their highmasts to LED.

The ETR 407 (not MTO owned, but 400 series hwy) has gone LED with both Cobras and Highmasts.

Probably in a few years HPS will for sure be the minority for roadway lighting.

Although Cree's must be the most common LED fixture choice in Ontario.

Yeah LEDs are popping up fast here too. The Cree lights are also the most popular brand here (seems for both street lighting and privately-owned commercial outdoor lights). Leotek is used by RIDOT, the state highway department, and by one town I know of. The AEL round Autobahns are used by a couple towns, and the rest all use Cree lights! The XSP1 and XSP2 lights aren't bad looking LEDs. I prefer them to the smaller "XSPR" Cree lights that look like tennis rackets lol. Ironically I own one of those "tennis rackets". Laughing

Interesting, I didn't know RI used Cree's as well. It sounds like down there its the same thing happening with the Cree's, rural sprawl. I think the best looking LED's are the Cree XSP1, and XSP2, GE Evolves, and Autobahns. The Cooper Verdeon takes last place indefinitely Razz
streetlight98   [Oct 12, 2018 at 02:19 AM]
Yeah I agree, though I rate the round Autobahns pretty high on the list. I also like the Philips Roadfocus lights, particularly the smaller ones:

Haven't seen any in RI but I've seen a sparse few as spot replacements in southeastern MA on the freeways.

Here our path lights are getting Phillips Roadfocus LED's, which aren't half bad in terms of looks and light distribution. Fortunately there has been enough time for manufacturers to design more appealing/normal
looking LED fixtures.(singling out Cooper Verdeons, and this Phillips Joe has a photo of most particularly Laughing

Toronto also changed out their 400w MH OV-25s on King in the financial district with these. They don't look that out of place as they opted for black painted ones instead of the standard grey. Aside from King and what Model25FanForever posted which I suspect to be a contractor temp light job. Toronto is still mostly MH/HPS.

Markham is mostly LED now, there are some strings of HPS left and it seems like they never changed out most of the signalized intersections to LED. In fact a new overpass opened back in June and the lighting was all HPS for some reason. I think Vaughan still has HPS lit arterials. Richmond Hill changed out to LED last summer IIRC.
