Here ya go Ian,a pic of the DuraStar opened up,there is lots of room inside to mount the ignitor instead of it sticking out the bottom like a sore thumb. Also you can see the adapter removed which twists and locks onto the housing.
Not another Durastar pic! This one is even worse than the last one since it shows the insides. Good thing I installed a some Durastar protection software on my computer before I opened the pic.
Anyways there seems to be plenty of room inside the fixture like you said to fit the ignitor and even to remove that bump on the ballast door which to me makes the fixture look worse than if it had a flat door.
Hey Niall, normally there is a terminal to connect to supply wiring, but in this fixture it was broken. In the pic you can see the three neutrals connected together close to the PC recept. with a spade connector which would then slip onto the terminal, same with the black wire.Sure I will take a pic of the slipfitter opened up for ya as soon as possible.

And I think outside external ignitor was just for lazy linemen ease of use...reasons...
And Darren, I am not SURE, but it doesn't look like this fixture can hold a NEMA style refractor?
