Interestingly, my Powerlite mini gumball uses the same diameter glass as your standard 8" signal lens. The yellow glass makes the 3000K CMH look more like HPs.
Thanks! Yeah it's sorta does now that it's sag lens "HPS" lol. I guess if I had a ton of these with missing glass, I could make a mini highmast pole with these lights.
The signal fit it quite snugly too, I had to pry it out with a tiny screwdriver when putting the drop lens back in.
That's really cool. I wonder how the distribution is. Do signal lenses direct the light at a downward angle toward drivers or are the prisms just to scatter the light?
Heh, I noticed that the light tends to go straight down instead of a bit off to the sides like it did with the drop lens fitted. The PAR 30 I used does tend to throw light straight down so I guess the effect is more pronounced if I used a 300w incandescent or a 100w MV.
Signal lenses are designed to throw most light downwards so the distribution would change depending on orientation. The orange peel and crosshatch style lenses used on old signals should give a more symmetrical distribution though. Here's a good lighting of the main types of signal lenses.
