Here you can see what i was talking about. This is the Westie 1982 lifeguard with the arc tube offcentered. it seems over the years the support frame had bowed to one side. It still works like a champ though and that's all that matters.

I wonder if it was used vertically or horizontally.

not sure. Horizontal would make sense though since it looks as if the support frame had softened up and it bowed upward from heat or somthing. the metal support wires on either side are visably curved in the shape of an ark.

Or sagged down when softened by the heat...
Or a quality-control miss on a LifeGuard lamp...that must be rare!
