Old I-195 Bridge
These pics were from 2005-2007. I wanted to get a L-150, ballast can, and arm from here but was unsuccesful. This bridge was demolished in sections because the ramps to main roads had to stay opend, but work began in i think 2008 or 2009.

I would assume they took the lights down before the bridge was demolished.

They disconnected the wiring, but the lights were actually up when the demolition happened. They can't blow the bridge up because this is in the middle of Providence, so the used the good ol' wrecking ball and bulldozer.

Well that's stupid Mad I have never seen that done before.
streetlight98   [Oct 04, 2011 at 10:35 PM]
Why is it stupid? They weren't going to be used for anything else. The Maybe the lights were taken down, but the poles definetly remained up. I can't see that well far away without my glasses. Neutral

Well I have never seen the lights left up when a bridge is demolished, they often put lights into storage if they are still working, they do here.

They scrap them here. The poles were definetly up, although for the sake of removing the lamps, the fixtures were probably removed too. They scrap eveythign here.

If you look closely in the old guardrail medians on the 401 you can occasionally see the abandoned pole bases and wiring from the old truss lights. You can even see the stumps of sawed off concrete poles along some sections too.
streetlight98   [Oct 05, 2011 at 01:49 AM]
Here they always dig up the old bases and wiring. THis was the only major highway in rhode island that didn't use concrete barriers. I guess this was never redon after those came out.
joe_347V   [Oct 05, 2011 at 01:54 AM]
There's still some sections of guardrail median on at least the 401, 427, and QEW. Some are quite old too...the ones on the 401 are from the late 60s but they're slowly being replaced with 4' tall wall or 3' jersey concrete barriers.

Over here, If the base isn't in the median they'll dig them out too instead of leaving it.
streetlight98   [Oct 05, 2011 at 01:58 AM]
if the pole is mounted on the jersy barrier, they'll replace that section with a new one. You know how some have a cut off peice for the anchor base?
joe_347V   [Oct 05, 2011 at 02:06 AM]
Over here if the pole is barrier mounted the MTO will either: cover up the hole with a piece of guardrail, fill in the notch with concrete, or just leave the base as is.
streetlight98   [Oct 05, 2011 at 02:12 AM]
Hmm. You guys use different barriers and pole base barriers We use these: see here
joe_347V   [Oct 05, 2011 at 02:15 AM]
Interesting, those bases I linked to are all older designs, here's how the current ones look.
streetlight98   [Oct 05, 2011 at 02:20 AM]
Cool. We have always used the ones that i linked. The ones i linked were on I-95 with M-400R2s
joe_347V   [Oct 05, 2011 at 02:26 AM]
They ones I linked to were all on the 401, and here's the pole that was replaced by the last pole I linked to. Should have grabbed that B2215 and OV 25. Very Happy
gailgrove   [Oct 05, 2011 at 02:39 AM]
I've seen that quite often that they will cutoff the pole in between the guardrail, I highly doubt they ever dig out the wiring, they don't here.

Yeah, like this and this.
