Here it is with the lamp removed, showing the nameplate and the base of the lamp. Good luck finding a replacement lamp for this thing! I guess if I ever put this into use and it died I'd cannibalize it for the ballast and use a regular E17 MV lamp (which I don't have any of either...)
The plug isn't polarized but the prongs are a little further apart than a normal plug. I could probably open this and get rid of the plug and add a socket if I had to. Yeah a PAR plug-in MV lamp shocked me too lol.
Someone on LG said they remembered seeing these in catalogs back in the 70's but they had never seen one other than in the catalog before. They also said that a 36w version was produced.
36W MV? That's really bizarre! At least this uses a normal wattage (albeit not a normal lamp) so I can reuse the ballast if I were to put this into use but I'm almost certainly going to preserve this.
Yeah, in that case I'd probably just replace the plug with a socket when needed. I guess they might have did that on purpose to prevent someone from plugging the MV lamp straight to the outlet.
Never heard of a 36w MV before either I wonder what current and voltage in runs on. Sounds it might have been possible to run it on a F40 LPF single lamp preheat ballast if the specs matched. I guess 36w might have been a retrofit for 60 or 75w incandescent but I'd personally think 40/50w is a better option since at least it's a standard wattage.
Yeah, I would preserve this too, it's too rare to use.
