My GE PF-400 Powerflood
Here's a lightly used GE PF-400. It does look like it was installed (some marks on the mounting bracket, which is folded up behind the light to allow it to stand up) but it's very clean. It was wired with some utility wire (Tony, that two-wire black cord with the white tracer that you use at work!) and has lots of scratches down to the bare metal on the back side and on the front at the two sides below the lens (the yellow colored spots). This thing is one BRIGHT son of a gun! Wouldn't be quite as bad outdoors but inside it's overkill big time lol.

This is a Connecticut Power & Light fixture BTW. Made in 1993. It's funny, I always pictured this flood light as being one of the more compact ones out there, though I knew it had to be pretty big but seeing this in person compared to a M-250R2 really shows its size. Also, there's no latch to open it up. There's a screw instead. Not a huge deal but I think I'd prefer the screw. Not sure what NGrid uses (screw or latch that is) but now they use Cooper floods.

This particular flood light by GE has been discontinued, so while this flood isn't "rare" by any means, it is in limited supply now. GE doesn't make any HID flood lights anymore.

No plans for this guy other than to keep it in storage. While this wouldn't be particularly pleasant for yard lighting, I may consider mounting it in the future. I also have my NOS 1980s Appleton 400W MV flood light. I'd like to get an older style GE Powerflood (the 400W Mv size and 1000W MV size). the 1000W MV ones are so big you can fit a drop lens M-250R2 INSIDE one with the guts removed. Like having a large microwave on a pole lol. This guy is pretty heavy but for a 400W light it's not.

The PF-400 does seem bigger than I thought they were. It's too bad G.E. stopped producing these.

Yep GE discontinued all non-LED lighting except for a handful of fixtures, almost all of which are cobraheads (AFAIK the M-250A2, M-250R2, M-400, and M-400A are all still made in drop lens and FCO, but HPS only. Says right on their site that metal halide options are no longer available, though they never updated the data sheet). I'm surprised they discontinued this but not some of the cobraheads. At least if they discontinued the Powr/Doors, the single door lights serve as a replacement (not that I'd want them to discontinue the Powr/doors, but you get my point; if they want to streamline inventory it makes sense to get rid of similar products and leave an available replacement). They also discontinued the Powr/Bracket. The 201SA is still made though. So is the T100R (or whatever it's called) coach style post top.

They did discontinue a couple cobraheads, the M400A2/R2. I didn't even know they discontinued the Powr/Bracket. I forgot all about that fixture! That's too bad. I think AEL still makes their versions of it though.

Yeah but those don't really count since they've been obsolete since the late 90s anyway (it's too bad since I liked the M-400R2/A2 line better). Yep AEL makes their version still and Cooper makes theirs too. Cooper's is called the Vanguard, and it's actually a Westinghouse design with very few modifications made over the years.

Thanks guys! I'd love to just go install this now but my neighbors don't hate me so I'd prefer to keep it that way. Laughing

The new ones have a handle on the top of the housing, made it a lot easier to install.

Ah cool. Yeah this one is older than I expected. I like that it't got the narrow font. Always thought the narrow font (especially the "10" and "40" tags) were really cool looking. Trying to find a 100W HPS M-250R2 with the narrow font like this. It's too bad GE discontinued this flood. I still see the rest on their site, but they said "no more metal halide options". Most other HID items have been removed from the site though but the four cobraheads remain.
