Plastic, my brother now has this too.

Thanks, I personally prefer glass though...I've seen plastic lenses burnt to the point where there's a nice hole in the centre. Shocked

For cobraheads i like glass, but for signals i like plastic better. Glass looks better on vintage lights though.
joe_347V   [Sep 04, 2011 at 02:09 AM]
Well for aluminium signals I prefer glass but poly signals look better with plastic lenses.
streetlight98   [Sep 04, 2011 at 02:10 AM]
I don't like poly signals. I like the aluminum ones better.
basilicon89   [Sep 04, 2011 at 03:17 AM]
I use poly lenses for frisbees! Thats all they're good for!!!

Also took one at the traffic signal collector meet last year and smashed through it with my fist. Thing distingrated...........
gailgrove   [Sep 04, 2011 at 02:10 PM]
We don't have either in my area, all signals where converted to LED at least eight years ago.
streetlight98   [Sep 04, 2011 at 02:16 PM]
I was surprised to see some incandescent traffic lights in Niagra Falls. I haven't seen an incandescent traffic light in over a year.
joe_347V   [Sep 04, 2011 at 06:00 PM]
There's some incandescent traffic lights left in Vaughan, and Oakville too.

And Toronto still has a lot of incandescent amber lights. My area is completely LED though.

@ Nick you've told me that story at least a dozen times. Razz

i don't like plastic lenses period....they always dull and yellow eventually.
joe_347V   [Sep 05, 2011 at 01:09 AM]
Just like plastic refractors. Razz
basilicon89   [Sep 05, 2011 at 05:15 AM]
Wasn't telling you anything this time!!!

They don't yellow.......they char up......... I stuck my finger through one before with not much effort just trying to remove it from a signal I was working on....
Form109   [Sep 05, 2011 at 08:43 AM]
@joe i don't think that's going to happen. Laughing

@Nick yes i have seen discolored traffic light lenses...Gadsden Alabama had plenty of 8 and 12" Signals with poly lenses with a Yellow-Brown discoloration smack dab in the middle of the lense.
streetlight98   [Sep 05, 2011 at 01:15 PM]
I've seen that too. Is it all incandescent traffic light lenses or just the plastic ones that the coloring is dull?
Form109   [Sep 05, 2011 at 07:59 PM]
i think its the heat that dulls incandescent poly lenses...glass wont be affected.
streetlight98   [Sep 05, 2011 at 09:10 PM]
I know any incandescent signals i see have a very dull drab color while the new non pixlated LED ones are bright and vivid.
joe_347V   [Sep 05, 2011 at 09:37 PM]
What kind of lamps do you use? I use 135w signal lamps in my 12" section and it's really bright. I use 60w clear lamps in my 8" sections though since I can't find 69w signal lamps.
streetlight98   [Sep 05, 2011 at 09:43 PM]
One has a 40 watt lamp and the others have 60w lamps. Even the few incandescents i see, especially the green, the color isn't strong. It's like a whitish blue-green color
joe_347V   [Sep 05, 2011 at 10:33 PM]
I guess it depends on the condition of the lens too, the problem I have with LEDs is that the colours aren't consistent especially the greens...some look almost like incandescent but some can look really blue. Rolling Eyes
streetlight98   [Sep 05, 2011 at 10:50 PM]
I know what you mean. Mostly the older non pixlated LED retrofits here are blueish. The newer ones are green here thankfully.
