Seen at the subway recently. At least they kept it T12 lol.
The same station also has a bunch of 34w lamps that get really dim every winter. The full wattage 30w and 20w lamps fair a lot better. I'm surprised they didn't use HO lamps in these fixtures.
Hmm interesting way of keeping the lamp in place. Is this from the 90s? I know a lot of places here that installed lights from that time used regular lamps where you'd expect to find HO. In fact, 6ft and 8ft lamps are the only slimlines or HOs you'll find here unless you get lucky. 4ft lamps and under are bi-pin 99% of the time here.
Indeed The fixtures are from the mid 80s, I took the pic a couple days ago lol. Over 4ft and 8ft HO lights are still somewhat commonly seen under building canopies but most places use HID lights instead. Until 2011 or so HD used to sell a 4' HO Lithonia strip. I don't think any of the box stores still sells them though. Those HO strips are the last decently made striplight at HD, most still used magnetic ballasts.
If you tape the lamps at the end where they get hottest, the tape likely either comes off easily or is impossible to get off, depending on the brand...I'm not fond of new duct tape, it doesn't stick well and leaves a terrible residue
They are (communism) government made each fixture is 4 4ft lamps = total crap the I refuse to re-ballast or even re-lamp. Mark can pay to have them fixed but It will be complete hell with me, I know some of you think the LEDs I put in were bad but you all have to under stand I run a business not a lamp show room, I am over the communism fixtures they are crap. I will only service HO and VHO now, so if people want free light bulbs and service in the building they best have VHO or HO. only mark would put fixtures in that have 4 lamps...... I am sick of the communism in the building he will pay big time for what he has done, so I will give out free lamps to all HO VHO this way people with 4 4ft lamps have to remove or pay the cost of the lamps.

Well, T8 fixtures aren't inherently bad and the lamps are somewhat decent now. What's bad are the tacky things they call ballasts that are stuffed into the new lights and the ballast bans. Back when T8 first came out they all used magnetic ballasts.
As for the LEDs, they are even worst the T8 IMO, they have bad light distribution, and they put out a useless amount of light compared to a T8. That and they don't really save that much to begin with. I'd much rather switch to a lower BF and use 25w T8s before I'd use one of those things.
As for HO and VHO they are sadly less efficient than T8. A T8 with a 1.2 BF ballast can probably rival a T12HO lamp. While HO and VHO are pretty neat and I also keep one in my garage as a showpiece. They are becoming a thing of the past in the commercial world.
Not for Polytechnic witch is a commercial building but we are only building to do anything 1/2 right in RI the sad part is that is true. Thank you for that I have never seen a T8 magnetic ballast before. The LEDs are still working good I love them best thing ever but LPS could soon creep into the building, my dad loves it now. It would be a sad day in RI if I ever had to re-ballast 4 4ft lamp thing
I believe T8 magnetic ballasts are still made for the time being (Advance R-2P32-TP and R-1P32-TP) but they might be on the chopping block. The current LED tube refits are really junky to say the least. They only save energy because they put out less light that a standard F32T8. And plus the lumens/watts on both is roughly the same.
I don't mind LPS outdoors but indoors is another story. Even though it's efficient, no one likes working under 0 CRI yellow light.
The tandem fixtures do have their uses TBH, 4ft lamps are easier to handle in cramped spaces so using them makes relamping easier. And plus I'd much rather have a well made tandem light with a decent ballast over a tin can light sold at the box store.
LPS for the hall ways Never would I ask someone to work under LPS The LED tubes I have are 2009 and new were $89 each but I got them for $11 They are external as I have said this is what makes them work so good, they have their own driver they are 2x the light of 1 F32T8
Well, I find it hard to believe that a LED T8 puts out 2x the light as a F32T8. They may look brighter since they only shine in a 180 deg pattern but I hardly call that acceptable since some T8 fixtures are designed for a tube shining 360 deg.
all I have is my eyes and my word there from eBay so no spec sheet. They are only good LED tubes I have ever seen they have a clear cover too, They are the best
Well, the eBay link will do. They might appear brighter cause they put out only in a 180 deg spread but in reality they don't have a omnidirectional output like regular T8s. If they're from eBay there most likely generic crappy lamps.

That said you got a spec sheet to them?
