Ahh, I remember seeing a lot of these in the 90s. Now it seems they all have been replaced with Polara Bulldog and Navigator buttons.

Wait, so this isn't brand-new? Shocked Looks like it was installed just a few months ago. Very Happy
Model25FanForever   [Jun 23, 2014 at 10:53 PM]
It may have been a refurb. IT was installed a while ago, its from this intersection
Smile Cool

It might be a new install but I never see any new ones get installed in York Region and Toronto.
streetlight98   [Jun 24, 2014 at 02:20 AM]
Ah i see. I wish they did some refurbs here.
m@   [Jun 24, 2014 at 05:43 AM]
eh, the intersection link is broken. Maybe these unuserfriendly buttons are NOS overstock only saved for temporary set ups Laughing
Model25FanForever   [Jun 24, 2014 at 10:56 AM]
I see the links broken! LOL, I don't know how it went from "better looking Fortrans" to the "Alliston Incandescent signals" from joe_347v Laughing
Yeah they might be actually because I don't see them installed anymore. I like them though actually.
Form109   [Jun 24, 2014 at 12:12 PM]
the link goes to one of my pictures now lol. Laughing
streetlight98   [Jun 24, 2014 at 04:44 PM]
When you make links, you need to use the URL address in the pic's description, not the URL address in your browser's http:// bar because that URL is sort of like a placeholder. Let's say you made that link when this was the newest pic on site and used the URL address at the top of the page. That link will always bring you to the most recent pic on the site. The URL is relative to the place the pic is at that exact moment whereas the URL in the pic's description is unique to the pic and will work every time. Smile

GTE still makes that button so its possible its a new one... They are about $20 bucks, which is pocket change compared to the Polara Bulldog ($120 per button factory price), and Polara Navigator ($500 per button factory price)
Form109   [Jun 24, 2014 at 11:54 PM]
you can always count on nick to solve a signal-related mystery. Cool

with that said is there any sacrifice made for that cheap price? is it a good button or a pos? I mean it's a nice price (120/500 Bucks seem pricey for just a button in a housing)
basilicon89   [Jun 25, 2014 at 12:26 AM]
The difference in cost is due these reasons...
The button in the picture is a simple mechanically driven microswitch that is a simply momentary call to the detector input.
The Bulldog is all solid state electronics that can be used with or without Polara's control unit.
The Navigator has all sorts of electronics packed into them including circutry to operate the voice features, a wireless handheld configuration device to configure the voice messages, volume, or update the button's software. So its a bit spiffier than a button that just places a call.

The button in the photo is GTE's PB 3 1000 model
streetlight98   [Jun 25, 2014 at 01:02 AM]
LOL I'd be sticking with the 20 dollar button. Signal installations are so expensive, I wonder why any municipality would opt to spend 500 bucks on one talking pedestrian button when you can install a few interesctions worth of conventional ped buttons for less then that. Shocked
basilicon89   [Jun 25, 2014 at 01:05 AM]
Technically those cheap GTE buttons don't meet ADA requirement either. The button actuator must be at least 2 inches in diameter and they should provide some type of visual, audible, or with Navigators, tactile feedback.
streetlight98   [Jun 25, 2014 at 02:05 AM]
Ah I see here in RI they use these for new installations. I assume they're Siemens buttons since they use Siemens signals.
basilicon89   [Jun 25, 2014 at 04:40 PM]
That is a Polara Bulldog. I have one similar to that. Siemens did not make crosswalk buttons.

Also, on a different note...Siemens sold off the traffic signal line to Brown Traffic Products last November. Brown has brought back the Eagle name. The new website is Here!

New York City has been using this particular model for well over ten years.
Model25FanForever   [Aug 15, 2014 at 05:34 PM]
They only come up at temporary traffic intersections here now.
