sad to see old streetlights (specifically MV) removed,though I feel a similar way when they upgrade a signal at an intersection that doesn't really need it.

on another note this picture makes me wonder...how much does the Pole,Mast Arm & base weigh without the light that is?

I was told the whole thing weighs about 1,000 lbs each.

Hmm I wonder why they have to remove the whole pole? Why not just install the LEDs on the existing poles? Or was this a series set up or something?

Even here they remove HPS lights for LED. In a city just south of mine they are just retrofitting them onto old poles. Some exceptions though

Hmm that's weird. Here when they went to HPS in the 90s, they kept the old poles, even the 1940s poles here that once held Form 109 lights. With the wood poles, they reused the arms that held mercs but for some reason they never reused the arms that held incandescents except for an extremely few such as this one.
