Sitting on the shelve in Lowe's from June 2000. I got this a while ago but haven't gotten a pic 'til now. If i'm not mistaken, this looks Philips-made. The etch seems Philips-like and the base looks different.
I bought a Phillips 175 watt mercury vapor lamp at the Home Depot that was sitting on the shelf since 2002. Unfortunately it failed after only 6 months.
Ah yeah newer Philips lamps are just a shame compared the Westinghouse lamps. for fluorescent, HID, and incandescent. Westinghouse made the best lamps out there and Philips trashed all their manufacturing equippement for their own. It's just a shame.
I was given a 175w clear Philips yesterday that I know for a fact came from a 90s Electripak yard light like mine...I stuck it in mine and it's noticeably brighter than the identical lamp I had in there before.
yeah the 90s philips lamps weren't bad (though noticably crappier than Westie lamps) but by the end of the 90s Philips pretty much tanked in lamp quality.
the reason why the philips lamp is brighter than the lamp you had in it is likely because the lamp you had in it has more hours on it than the philips one (since MV lamps dim over time). Newer mercs are said to dim faster than older ones even compared to 90s lamps but i don't know how true that is. I know that the arc tube seals on GE mercs were bad before (so the lamp would simply stopp working altogether after about a month) and Philips lamps in general have weak welds inside so if the lamp is vibrated it'll break. Older lamps you could play catch with a friend using the lamp and the weldings inside would be fine (just don't drop the lamp lol). Sylvania mercs, though made in china, are probably the best merc lamp out there today besides EYE, but EYE is way overpriced anyways.
I prefer Philips CMH lamps but other than that, Philips lamps are inferior besides induction and LED, which are actually good.
