I saw an ad for these once - IIRC they were originally designed to be long-life traffic signal bulbs and the AT-19 shape was designed to make it easier to grab the lamp to change it.

the AT shape also allows more krypton fill gas and reduces the bulb temperature by about 10-15%.

Yeah, I have a traffic light that came with these. I still see them sold from time to time on eBay.
