Weird HPS Cycling (Video)
Hmm, it seems this R47 has been cycling pretty weirdly recently. It turns on steady then it will blink a few times and then it shut off before restriking a minute later. Odd...

I believe it was a 100w HPS.

See video below, I only got the blinking part though. If I get a better vid I'll update the link.

Anyone know why a HPS might blink like this?

I'm guessing the lamp is struggling to keep the arc before shutting off completely. I've never seen that happen before though. Neutral

Yeah normally they just go out instead of blinking. I think I'd saw another R47 do this too. I wonder if it has to do with the ignitor that Powerlite used.

Possibly. i know a Cooper OVH on my dad's parent's street that when it's dusk, the lamp pulses dimly a few times then flashes on at about 1/3 brightness to a halogen color then the orange color comes in as it warms up in under a minute. when i take walks with my grandmother i like seeing the older lamps in the M-250R2s start off a nice blue-green color and shift over to a purple-red then shift to the familiar orange color instead of the newer lamps that start off a halogen color and then shift over to orange. That's just BORING! Sad

This got replaced by a AEL 115 a couple days ago, why I'm not too sure as I think a new lamp was all that it needed. It was still doing the flashing thing right up to removal though.

There was a Westinghouse OV-15 down the road that did that. It was OVX'd about 2 years ago. Laughing Razz I think it burn't itself out
