Powdercoated....reassembly begins
My newest (and most likely last, for the near term) piece came back from the powdercoater yesterday in full glossy federal yellow. The finish on this signal is unlike anything you can get out of spray can....for almost $500 it better be! Now we begin the slow reassembly...

The field wiring coming in from the controller cabinet is connected...the first batch of glass reflectors are going in. Stay tuned!!

Nice! I can see that the reflector has some age spots on it though.

You could have used the original paint color Confused

But, nevertheless it look great! Very Happy

The reflectors will get resilvered in the future. Right now they're fine the way they are. The original color was yellow, my buddy had sprayed it green. I prefer yellow signals myself

That clears up the paint part Cool

Just out of curiosity, were the hinges and closure latches originally bare metal or always been painted?
basilicon89   [Jan 20, 2013 at 12:21 AM]
Closure latches were. Hinges were not. The powdercoater painted them and they were very stiff. I used vicegrips to get them to open and close

Looks good Cool
But almost $500 to "paint" it Shocked Shocked Shocked

Looking good! $500 is well on the high side. Did a painter paint it or you?
basilicon89   [Jan 20, 2013 at 03:17 AM]
It wasn't just painted. It was professionally powdercoated. There's a several stage treatment process to the metal including media blasting. The paint is actually a powder that is baked onto the metal in a large oven. The powder I needed was a special order too. Powdercoating has a finish that paint cannot ever compare to! Its got a finish of a brand new car. I will get high def pics soon

Did you completely dissamble it - remove closure latches / doors / etc ? to get the best "pain"/finish job... & so no parts would get 'stuck' in place.

That powdercoating finish should last forever if you are keeping it indoors Smile

It all came apart for powdercoating. Visors, body, doors, top and bottom pagoda, and all 24 latches went in. It will live out its retirement inside and connected to the rest of my basement intersection
