RESTORE FIND: PL Adapter Galore!
$0.25 a piece was what i payed for all this! Everything works too! The PLs are all 2700K. There are seven 5W PLs and Adapters and 2 13W PL adapters with 3 lamps (i guess i miscounted since i meant to grap 3 adapters. I supposed when round two comes along i can get more LOL) I still can't belive i spent only $20! I was expecting to walk out broke LOL. They had a whole wall of new CFLs which got no attention from me LOL. I also got a full vintage socket wrench set for $3. The funny thing is the PLs and T12 tubes were priced at $1 each, the circline and PL adapters at $0.50. For some reason she only charged me a quarter each for everything LOL. The two fixture corpses were $5 though as was the beautiful 60s-70s 4-lamp fixture i left behind. I plan to make a comback for it though. Hopefully before someone else gets it. I can't see it selling though since used light fixtures don't seem to appeal to most lol.

Oh wow!. Shocked BTW Dave, the Philips PL5s are made in Holland are coded E8. Can you date them please? I'm not sure about the Osrams but I can check...

May 1988, not bad! Likely made with thick glass.
streetlight98   [Dec 29, 2012 at 11:45 PM]
Cool! A full decade older than I am. Laughing Oh yes! the glass is pretty thick. It's noticable when looking at the phosphors when lit. Do you know why when it's lit, one end of the tubes looks lit while the other end doesn't?

Also, is "ux2" the date code of the Osram lamps? That's the best i could find. Neutral

My Restore had a 347v Holophane highbay stashed under the lighting shelf for a couple years...I guess no one bought it so they chucked it after two years.

Oh and I forgot to mention this, sometimes if you bring a bunch of parts/bulbs/fixtures that looks like a pile of junk to the clerk they might just charge you something like 10 bucks for the entire pile instead of counting the prices.

That's exactly what happened when i went to this resale shop once and bought a whole cart of circline and other lamps

I had a similar experience at a thrift store where the lady was on the phone and charged me $10 for a box of interesting bulbs...I love those places where you can make an offer instead of a set price...
streetlight98   [Dec 30, 2012 at 02:36 AM]
well, she counted everything alright. Laughing I swear she counted a couple lamps twice but i really don't care since the stuff was real cheap anyways and the money goes to a good cause. I'm really being eaten alive by regrat for not getting that light! Even if the light is there i stuck the ballast channel out in the open so I'll go nuts if it's not there. Perhaps i can get a ballast channel cover from one of my grandpa's troffers if he doesn't mind. I somehow doubt he would as long as it's from one of his shop's troffers. Who knows, maybe it'll still be there. They seemed to be very up-tight about spare parts lying around. Anyways, I guess i can't really let it get to me but it's driving me nuts nut having the light and its ballast cover in my basement safe and sound lol.

Have you tested these yet? You could use one lamp of each wattage to test, keeping the rest NOS.
A_lights   [Dec 30, 2012 at 03:19 AM]
I still consider it NOS when tested for less then a min, plus did you know Westinghouse used to pre light the MV lamps for a half hour to reduce failures that sometimes occur early in a lamp's life
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Dec 30, 2012 at 03:24 AM]
Wow I didn't know that...must be another reason LifeGuards are great lamps!

Yuppie Very Happy

Someday I want to find a 175w and/or 400w Westy LifeGuard, preferably a cleartop!
A_lights   [Dec 30, 2012 at 03:29 AM]
You know i have a few,175W i wouldn't mind sending you one of them..none are 400W
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Dec 30, 2012 at 03:32 AM]
Sadly at the moment I don't think I could accept lamps from other members...maybe when I'm 18? Wait a few years Laughing
Another gem I want to find is a clearband 175w Sylvania...
A_lights   [Dec 30, 2012 at 03:33 AM]
Most likely you'll find one sooner then your 18th, they're not super rare. ..yet
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Dec 30, 2012 at 03:47 AM]
Hopefully...I'll keep my eye out!
That's the nice thing with good quality vintage stuff, Westy LifeGuards, westy blackenders, GE MainLighters, ETC.

Nice catchcatch Very Happy
streetlight98   [Dec 30, 2012 at 04:10 AM]
@ Andy; i tested all the lamps and adapters and they all work.
@ Aaron; yeah i still consider lamps NOS if i test them. IMO anything that wasn't installed or operated on a regular basis is NOS. Cool
@ Rick; Thanks! I guess in a way i know how my mom feels when she gets cloths at a bargain. When i saw all the old stock stuff they had i went through the roof! and i didn't burn a hole through my wallet either which is a double plus!
vaporeyes   [Dec 31, 2012 at 02:32 AM]
Nice assortment! There is one ReStore in my area that has good stuff but it's a bit out of my way. Practically every other thrift store, ReStore and antique/recycled building material place has only ugly incandescent fixtures and bulbs. I've even talked to some of the owners of the stores and they say that few people wanted the fluorescent & HID stuff so they didn't make much money off it, and some (like one of my local thrift stores) won't accept anything containing mercury anymore because of the hazard/trouble disposing of it.
streetlight98   [Dec 31, 2012 at 02:52 AM]
Thanks! Yeah this ReStore is a bit out of the way for me but it was a special trip my dad made for me to go check it out. He even walked out with a few cool things for himself like a table saw and a NOS power drill. I'm going back because i left behind a 70s or maybe even 60s troffer type fixture becuase one of the GE ballasts had leaked (though no tar on the fixture itself). And to make me regret it more, it was only $5! Shocked Mad Crying or Very sad I REALLY hope it's there when i return. I have a slim chance of going tomorrow and if i don't, the next chance won't be for a couple WEEKS!. Sad
